The National Rifle Association is standing its ground when it comes to any possible United Nations incursion on domestic gun ownership.

The Hill writes of the NRA's efforts to prevent the UN Arms Trade Treaty, which is being debated through July, from, according to NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre, "disregarding American citizens' right to self-defense."
"The only way to address the NRA's objections," says LaPierre, "is to simply and completely remove civilian firearms from the scope of the treaty." He told reporters that 58 senators have pledged their opposition to the treaty should it include civilian weapons.
But advocates of international curbs on civilian gun ownership maintain they're necessary to keep deadly weapons out of the hands of terrorists. Besides, they say, Americans have little to fear from global agreements like the treaty in question, because the US Constitution's Second Amendment trumps international law.
