Wikipedia, Reddit, and several other sites - including the Cheezburger Network - are planning to stage a blackout starting midnight Tuesday to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
How could SOPA affect you? Well, the law potentially makes site owners liable for content their users upload. As CNN reports,
"YouTube would just go dark immediately," Google public policy director Bob Boorstin said at a conference last month. "It couldn't function."If you run a blog or a website that lets users post their own content, the law could allow the government to shut down your site too.
The bill has support in Congress, but President Barack Obama yesterday said he would not support the bill, Forbes reports.
Your take: Will the Stop Online Piracy law affect you?
