While the nation's other major cities like New York and Los Angeles appear to be on the up and up, Chicago is unfortunately continuing to struggle.

Gun restrictions do nothing but make the law abiding populace more vulnerable. If you honestly niece passing a law against guns will deter criminals from using and acquiring them when they already show no regard for other laws then you're an idiot, plain and simple. I carry everyday in Indiana and have never had the need to draw on another person yet. The one time I did feel the draw on someone and possibly defend myself was guess where, Chicago. That whole town is a another and if I can help it will never go back.

My theory..legalized medical marijuana. Pot is all but legal in CA. There are more pot shops than Starbucks in LA. Murder rates have been cut in half. My bf and I don't even bother to lock the car. And while medical marijuana isn't legal in NY state, it's legal in NJ, and I betcha they have a lot of places you can get pot right across the bridge from NYC..So what? you ask. Well much gang violence is due to gangs fighting over drug selling territory. Think of the horrors you hear about Mexican drug cartels. Pot accounts for half of (illegal) drug sales, making pot even semi-legal not only cuts into their profits, it removes using pot from a "culture of crime".

Lol because giving young people a way to make hundreds or thousands of dollars in one night is SO unappealing. Of COURSE they would rather have a clean cut 9 to 5 job for minimum wage...and pay taxes! Hell if I wasn't afraid of losing the small amount of a good life I DO have, I'd take some risks too.

Chicago is in the hands of progressives, they'll give away money through programs until the money is gone and blame their predecessors for the current issues and villify anyone who points out their failure to affect anything lasting. sound familiar? Remember Rahm is the guy who said never let a good crisis go to waste.

For the life of me I can't understand why pot isn't legalized. All the lay abouts and gangstas and wanna be's smoke pot. You legalize pot, let them buy high grade pot with their money you make tax dollars and the thugs get so high they sit on the couch talking about doing a robbery and watching game shows and playing XBox and they never get around to doing the robbery. They say they will right after their nap but then they get high again and right back on the couch. It's a no brainer seems to me.

Typical Liberal strategy. Treat the symptoms of the problem in hopes of covering up the problem. New symptom? New treatment. More money.

How about we address the problem. The ambivalence towards Fatherhood and the feeble attempts by government to be a substitute.

Chicago is getting as bad, maybe worse, than when the old-time mafia was the ruling party. But I won't blame all of Chicago's ills on politics. Until parents start parenting and morals are reinstituted in homes and churches and schools and businesses, things are only going to get worse with the younger generations. Everything seems to be broken...kids wouldn't need gangs if there were stronger families.

Chicago like Wash D.C. have very strict gun laws. Both have very high crime and homicide rates. Excuses are made to explain away why strict gun laws don't reduce cime. These arguments are not really about guns or crime, it's about control period. The left's persistant efforts to disarm the American people isn't about crime control it's about people control. The anecdotal evidence is overwhelming but unacceptable to the Statist. An unarmed society is subject to all manner of inignity at the hands of criminals or Government, (see Britian and Austrailia). After all they are SUBJECTS Not citizens.
