You can have that plus-sized soda when you pull it from their ice-cold, not-yet-dead hands.

That was the sentiment on display yesterday in New York City, where the "Million Big Gulp March" (which only drew about a dozen heads) took place to protest Mayor Bloomberg's soda ban. Deemed nothing less than an affront to "the principles on which our country was founded" by one attendee, others took a more comical approach to the sugary drink crackdown.

Did you know that President Obama helped Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakhan organize the First "Million" March back in 1995.

Even the Daily Kos had to acknowledge that it's true.

So Obama helped to organize the Million Man March. Good for him for being a political activist.
The "New Party," big deal. A political party that emerged in the mid nineties but didn't garner enough support. A third and fourth political party with teeth are what we need.
I hear Obama used to smoke weed, good for him. I still smoke weed, good for me. We both grew up in Hawaii: EVERYONE in Hawaii smokes weed! Grand parents, cops, politicians, Big Kahunas, etc........
As a careless, thoughtless, spoiled brat student 40+ years ago, Romney beat up gay boys. Should I take that to be a reflection of the man he is today? Not so much.

I probably know more about Obama's "Choom Gang" than you. I think he and I would have been friends if we went to the same high school.

But what if he Romney was a member of the KKK or the Nazi Party in the 90's? Would that matter to you? It would to me.

I made no mention of Obama's high school antics. I feel they are as meaningless as one case of when Romney was a bully in high school. You brought up the maryjane.

I am fairly certain that Romney has not been a member of a communist party or knowingly hung out with and helped organize events for known haters of Jews and whites.

The government has their nose in our business enough! If I wanna drink oversized sweet sodas that ought to be be my own business. I know what what too mush sugar does for me, but if i want to ingest it that ought to be my own business. next we will have to shut down all of the eating places so we won't have to get fat. They have already messed with the school lunches, which a lot of kids won't eat, theirfore going hungry. I know some of you think this is okay, but wait until they decide to keep you from your important thing to eat or do. WAKE UP PEOPLE, we have soldier boys dying every day for our freedom and our government is trying to take it away.

LOL. There were only a dozen or so supporters because most of them couldn't get off the couch for that long!
I think a better approach would to be a tax and warning labels on soda containers similar to the taxes and labels on cigarette packs.

Because those taxes and labels have worked so well? It's much cheaper to roll your own, most people are just too lazy, but if prices go high enough? We'll just have people growing tobacco becoming synonymous with moonshining.

I have to admit, the United States has become the fattest, most out of shape nation in the world. It's embarrassing to say the least. It also adds to the cost of medical care. Obesity has surpassed tobacco in causing illness and high care costs.
I'd love it if we could fine or tax fat people for being fat.

A person can be unhealthy even if they are not fat. Likewise a person can be reasonably healthy if they are fat as long as they aren't severely fat. Also, there are disabilities that cause obesity no matter how little you eat, short of starving yourself to death.
And how would you measure it? If you weigh people remember that muscle adds pounds too. Should we fine or tax people for being body builders, some of the healthiest people in the world?
Some small "tax" would be reasonable to keep people from overdoing it, but the problem with laws like this is that it infringes on responsible people who are moderate with their intake of sodas and junk foods. I'm sure if a large number of people found vegetables to be the tastiest thing ever we'd have the opposite problem. Too much of anything is bad for you.

BTW by small tax I'm referring to placing a tax on junk foods and sodas not on fat people. But very small, something that would only burden you if you are a glutton.

It's ridiculous. NYC has gone off the deepend with government intrusion into people's personal habits.
Personally I don't usually buy big sodas, instead I avail myself of the "refill" option. But that's likely next on the chopping block. If they ban refills in NYC you can bet I'll pick a different vacation destination.
