I don't disagree, but the question assumes that your immigration status can be as quickly and easily checked as your driver license status. But what if it meant detaining you for an hour at the station while inquiries were made?

Sure, as long as there was a reason for them to be stopped, e.g. running a stop sign or something and not just "driving while brown". It's always been about racial profiling in the first place and people who claim that doesn't happen have their eyes shut. Train officers to obey the law they are "upholding" and there really wouldn't be an issue.

If you look different in your ethnicity, i say YES. I get checked out at every airport i fly out of. So shouldn't be a problem for all morally inclined people.Unless of course you are an Illegal resident. Get a green card and spend the $2500.00 to make you legal. Simple,right?

Absolutely, I have had my passport checked numerous times while working down in the Yucatan peninsula, I had to prove that I had a legitimate reason to be there, if I go to any country I have to produce my documents when asked. If your legitimate there shouldn't be any problem with providing the required documents, thats what they are for. I have no problem with immigrating as long as it's done legally.

Yes. Even though it is not in their Jurisdiction. And you know what they arrest people for that are not committed in their Jurisdiction. For example if a person were to kidnap somebody in one state and they get apprehended in another state, they turn them over to where the kidnap was committed. Kidnapping is a federal crime. Illegal entry is a federal crime and it should be treated the same as kidnapping. How would you feel if your child was kidnapped by some guy and he was apprehended in another state, but had to be let go because the officer has no jurisdiction on a federal crime nor was the kidnapping committed in his state? It should be like anything else. If they have a warrant or a probable cause that you might be an illegal immigrant they should be able to check, but if they have no evidence(and skin color or accent is not evidence) they shouldn't.

Sure. They ask me for my driver's license when I get pulled over or want to make a purchase on credit. Asking if someone is a legal citizen harms no one. The real question is whether police will be able to get illegals deported. Especially in light of Obama orders that let anyone stay who is supporting a family member or the new let's every illegal kid who's been here a couple of years hang around.

No, there are many whom are born in the U.S.A. and to have them scrutinized in this fashion just because they fit the profile is insane. Let the police do what police are hired to do, and let immigration do what immigration is hired to do and stop trying to mix the two. We have enough police trying to overstep their boundaries as it is, the last thing we need is a rouge cop harassing natural born citizens just because they look a certain way and don't have a green card on their person.

If law enforcement shouldn't be allowed to check one's immigration status during a traffic stop, why should they be able to ask to see a driver's license? In fact, why should they be able to stop us AT ALL? It would be UNFAIR and UNJUST to enforce some laws and not all laws. I mean, do we really want to DISCRIMINATE when it comes to enforcing laws?
