We can not allow America to sink to the level of a fascist police state. What criteria would be used to determine the appropriateness of such checks? This is just another excuse to allow the use of profiling. While the use of profiling in and of itself is not wrong, it opens up the possibility of abuse that goes far beyond immigration. This would set a dangerous precedent for the future.

I have lost an Uncle and a good friend to drunk drivers and both of them were illegal aliens, with no license or insurance. It should be like anything else. If they have a warrant or a probable cause that you might be an illegal immigrant they should be able to check, but if they have no evidence(and skin color or accent is not evidence) they shouldn't.

Sure. They ask me for my driver's license when I get pulled over or want to make a purchase on credit. Asking if someone is a legal citizen harms no one. The real question is whether police will be able to get illegals deported. Especially in light of Obama orders that let anyone stay who is supporting a family member or the new let's every illegal kid who's been here a couple of years hang around.

No, there are many whom are born in the U.S.A. and to have them scrutinized in this fashion just because they fit the profile is insane. Let the police do what police are hired to do, and let immigration do what immigration is hired to do and stop trying to mix the two. We have enough police trying to overstep their boundaries as it is, the last thing we need is a rouge cop harassing natural born citizens just because they look a certain way and don't have a green card on their person.

If law enforcement shouldn't be allowed to check one's immigration status during a traffic stop, why should they be able to ask to see a driver's license? In fact, why should they be able to stop us AT ALL? It would be UNFAIR and UNJUST to enforce some laws and not all laws. I mean, do we really want to DISCRIMINATE when it comes to enforcing laws?
