It was upheld as it was a tax, even tho all along, the ones pushing it, swore up and down it wasn't a tax... so... it actually is a tax then... which is still unconstitutional on those grounds, because it didn't originate in the house. Taking an unrelated bill, wiping every bit of the language, and rewriting it top to bottom as Obamacare, just to recycle the house bill number, DOES NOT COUNT as originating in the house.

the PPACA was ill-considered and passed in haste by questionable means. it represents a signficant federal over-reach, as well as poor public policy. for the Court to correctly hold that the Commerce Clause could not possibly support the law, but then to search around for some means to justify keeping it was stunning. PPACA should have been scrapped, and a new bill developed, properly debated, and voted upon.

Undocumented aliens aren't privy to this 'Obama care', that is OK with me. However, NO ONE can be 'turned away' from care at the hospital. That doesn't mean they can't merely have you wait 10 or more hours. In some cases,they "refuse" by saying there is nothing we can do. Patient dumping is a tragic consequence of having no where to house a unable patient (homeless).Obama Care is a basic package. Cadillac Care costs. The reality is it will be a HMO or managed care plan. If you want superior medical care, it will still cost you for uncovered treatment.

Auto ins is a requirement and anyone who drives has no choice in buying coverage. "Driving is a privilege." Some may question that statement. Health can be a simple matter of either good or bad genes. Many have no choice in this issue. Health care should be afforded to those who cannot acquire it because of economics. @KenWolf I think Stings is saying that before Obamacare went into effect health care was a privilege for those that are either rich or had health insurance and without health care, thousands died each year. The tax you refer to is the price paid for health insurance and other out of pocket health expenses. Like it or not, it's the tax we pay to live. Too many people couldn't afford that tax. And a lot of them died. Others were denied even paying the [health] tax- and a lot of them died- and still others who could pay and were eligible, freeloaded the system and made others pay for them. I suppose a lot of them died as well. But Obamacare has changed all of that....

Can you link or refer us to the people saying let them die? Also, while auto-insurance may be a requirement, that industry has not been nationalized and people are allowed to choose from various competing companies. They are not being forced to pick from one of two or three government centralized plans. Furthermore, before AHA was passed, my insurance was pretty damn affordable, it is not now. And when AHA is finally implimented it will still be more expensive. The tax penalty alone for not being insured a particular year is also rediculously expensive and unconstitutional, you can make someone buy car insurance if they choose to drive because they have to cover the ri...

It's a privilege to own and drive a car. Exiting your mothers womb is not a choice. Anyone who can afford health ins should be made to pay for said coverage. I actually don't think it goes nearly far enough, but at least now Insurance companies can't turn me down because I'm 50, self-employed and had a headache last year. The reason I don't think it goes far enough is purely mathematical in nature. It has to do with the math behind a system of 3 parties trying to game each other. In our system you have providers, payers and patients. Patients game providers, providers game payers and payers game patients. Being poor is a reason to have Obamacare. That's the whole idea is to give access to high quality healthcare to everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status. Otherwise, the emergency room becomes your source of healthcare, which is the most expensive kind of healthcare and ends up getting paid for by everyone else. In essence Obamacare provides healthcare to everyone and limits the profit margin for insurance providers. By adding 30 million uninsured to Obamacare, you spread the risk, open up healthcare to all, ultimately decreasing the cost of healthcare for everyone.

I think anyone seeking true emergency care should receive it without fear of deportation or penalty. There needs to be a way to insure all Americans or make affordable clinics with decent care available in the neighborhoods that are truly affordable. I believe the Supreme Court should have taken into consideration the deception employed by Democrats in their denial of a "tax" while trying to convince the public... Only to argue for the mandate as a "tax" in court. The Supreme Court is a co-equal branch of government with "check powers" over the other two co-equal branches. It was designed that way. The tactics used to pass this law was deceptive and the rhetoric was deceptive and Chief Justice Roberts let Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats get away with it. Ah well... Look on the bright side... "Repeal Obamacare" will get quite a few votes for Romney come November.

How anyone could find a negative view on exceptional health care law is beyond me. As a student, I am greatful that I will be allowed to stay on my fathers health care through college, because as a student, health care benefits are hard to reasonably come by. The people penalized by this law are only those careless enough to have the means to purchase health care coverage, but choose not to do so. I couldn't be happier with todays ruling.

In supporting ObamaCare, the U.S. Supreme Court has now given government ultimate authority over determining what individuals decide to purchase. I guess it should be no surprise that big government begets big government, which is merely another example of how infested with liberalism even "conservatives" are in this modern age. Justice Roberts should be ashamed of himself. I'm certainly ashamed of him. Our nation is not what it once was, and I fear it will never again be the nation of greatness we grew up in.
