SF Sheriff on the Verge of Being Tossed From Office

Law enforcement chief previously pled guilty to domestic violence

San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi could lose his job after being convicted on domestic violence charges. The city's Ethics Commission has voted 4-1 in support of allegations brought by Mayor Ed Lee.

Mirkarimi was convicted in March of misdemeanor false imprisonment for the domestic violence incident on his wife, Venezuelan telenovela star Eliana Lopez. The acts occurred on Dec. 31, 2011, days before Mirkarimi was sworn in as sheriff.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors, weighing the commission's findings, will have the final say on whether Mirkarimi should remain as sheriff. And while 80 percent of commissioners said Mirkarimi was unfit to hold office, they rejected many of the charges levied against the sheriff by Lee, including allegations that Mirkarimi had tried to keep witnesses from going to police and had threatened his wife.

Since it's an elected office, I'd submit that recalling the Sheriff should also be up to the voters. Let them decide.

whats the hold up? no reason to let anyone convicted be in a police force. then again in my town a cops can get sent to anger management walk out the door put his gun on and go to work,yet all others lose their right to own a gun after that conviction.

He's not a convicted felon. But I do agree he should be fired. Law enforcement should be held to a higher standard and not given the leniency they receive ever single time they break the law there swore to uphold.
