Offensive or artistic license?

It's hard to imagine this cover would fly on a US magazine. The Spanish-language Magazine de Fuera de Seria is trolling Europe will its cover art, which features Michelle Obama's headshot photoshopped onto a painting of a semi-naked slave.
The original painting, "Portrait of a Negress" ("Portrait D'Une Negresse"), created in 1800 by Marie-Guillemine Benoist, was considered a celebration of the abolition of slavery in France six years earlier. However, this cover image is likely to be seen in a different light, as an offensive manipulation of Michelle Obama's image to depict her as sexualized and enslaved. The accompanying article title translates as "Michelle - Granddaughter of a Slave, Lady of America," and the piece seems to be a "glowing" tribute to the First Lady, according to the Daily Mail.
