America's third-largest public school system may be without teachers on Monday. That'll happen if a deal isn't brokered between Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) by midnight Sunday, Reuters reports.
Emanuel wants to push tougher standards tied to test scores and give principals more power over hiring teachers. The CTU doesn't want to make any more concessions, having already given in over longer school days. Plus the union considers Chicago's cancellation of a 4% longevity pay raise and sick leave to be an unfair labor practice.
