President Barack Obama said on Wednesday night that his administration doesn't consider Egypt's new government to be an ally or an enemy. The comments highlight new tensions between the US and Egypt in light of recent protests outside the US embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and the Egyptian government's response.
Administration sources claim the President's comments weren't aiming to signal any change in US-Egyptian relations – in fact, the comments weren't prepared or anticipated.
"Certainly in this situation what we're going to expect is that they are responsive to our insistence that our embassy is protected, our personnel is protected," Obama told Telemundo. "And if they take actions that indicate they're not taking responsibilities, as all other countries do where we have embassies, I think that's going to be a real big problem."
Obama said the fledgling government has made some steps in the right direction, but in other respects, "how they've responded to various events may not be aligned with our interests."
Egypt has been considered a major non-NATO Ally since 1989.
Egypt has NO REAL choice based on what OUR 'people' keep doing to them and their Nation. We are acting as if they have no rights or sovereignty and are just a different 'sub-human' to "serve" America and her addicted "warrior" Peoples as their government/corps loot/rape/pillage like a hoard of Vikings while We the People eat up spoon-fed propaganda too lazy to even question, much less checkup on it to see if its actually true or not. TRY to put yourself in the shoes of ANYONE, anywhere who is facing the American behemoth in your face and try to imagine how YOU might react to such a thing!
@Stratton you obviously are NOT very familiar with how our government works "field assets" or it's other 'dark arts' we routinely train and use as SOP. Here is but a single NON-classified example of how we use 'foreigners' for medical experiments that we are doing on some of the citizens throughout that region as we debate things neither of us have any direct control of... http://www.sph.emory.edu/EITRP/pubsandpresent...
@Texian - It's clear that you've been wallowing in conspiracy-theory literature so long that you see "dark arts" everywhere. The document you linked is a series of voluntary tests for vaccines of infectious diseases. Similar studies have been done in the US on Americans many, many times, but antibodies are very different from one population to another so it's always better to do the tests where the diseases ACTUALLY ARE.
I know I'm not going to convince you. Once paranoia reaches a certain level there's just no reasoning with it.
Not just NO.....but HELL NO!! Time to pull out of the middle east and NEVER come back (unless it's a drone or any UNMANNED vehicle). They don't like "US" and we don't like them.....and take OUR money with "US"
@Gilbert-- You catching on to one of my qualifiers... I use phrases like that when I am making a judgement based on the information available and not on the information that I know that I don't know.
Allow to me to show to you what I mean...
The United State apparently knew that an attack was coming since Sept. 4, and papers that identify Libyans who are with the Americans were taken from the consulate. In addition the US ambassador went missing from a "safe house" that was supposed to be secret.
So that is why I said, "it looks like." Now the reason said the rest of my comment was because President Obama had this advice to Mitt Romney in reference to the same events in the Middle East.
"There's a broader lesson to be learned here. And I -- you know, Governor Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later. And as president, one of the things I've learned is you can't do that. That, you know, it's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts. And that you've thought through the ramifications before you make 'em."
Taken from the story - "Pres. Obama: Well, look, the Unites States doesn’t have an option of withdrawing from the world. And we’re the one indispensable nation. Countries all around the world look to us for leadership, even countries where sometimes you experience protests. And so it’s important for us to stay engaged.".- Sounds like a Republican to me, I can't believe you guys don't like him.
While I don't care much our current POTUS, I don't place all the blame on him. First of all, we have been at war with the entire middle east for decades. The turmoil is an internal power struggle for control of wealth and station. The USA poses a threat to their efforts to gain that control over the competition.
@FollowTheMoney By not standing strong we have given the bad guys to believe that we are weak. Barack Husssein Obama absolutely is to blame for the mess we are in today there. The same thing that happened to Carter is happening to him. These Muslim extremists only recognize strength and power. And that is what our present leader thinks is wrong...he wants to be the nice guy to Islam. Won't work.
@seedtick Absolutely, But it's time shit or get off the pot. We are either committed to winning this war in the middle east or we're not. If we are, then the politicians need to get out of the way and let our military commanders do there jobs. If we're not then lets just pull out.
“We borrow from Europe to defend Europe. We borrow from the Gulf states to defend the Gulf states. We borrow from Japan to defend Japan. Is it not a symptom of senility to be borrowing from the world so we can defend the world?”
“Are vital U.S. interests more imperiled by what happens in Iraq where were had 50,000 troops, or Afghanistan where we have 100,000, or Europe where we have 80,000 troops or South Korea 28,000,-- or by what is happening on our border with Mexico?...What does it profit America if we save Anbar and lose Arizona?” Pat Buchanan
Muslim Brotherhood has yet to prove itself. So far they are looking more like an enemy than friend. But when they have a radical element in their base of support, they will mostly likely cave to the needs of their supporters than the int'l community. Bad news for us!
