The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have issued a word to the streetwise. In a joint statement to the press,
Mediaite reports, the agencies warn of possible violence in the US following the release of the controversial "Innocence of Muslims" film responsible for the anger that continues to rock the Arab world.
While the statement cites no specific threat, it does warn those in the religious community in particular to be on guard:
The risk of violence could increase both at home and abroad as the film continues to gain attention. First responders should remain aware of the potential for spontaneous large crowds and protests that could overwhelm resources and should be vigilant for possible efforts to encourage peaceful protesters to commit acts of violence. Faith-based organizations should promptly report suspicious activities that could indicate pre-operational plotting against Jewish, Coptic, Islamic, or any other faith-based communities.
ABC
reports that members of the FBI have been sent to Libya to investigate the possibility that a militant group there took advantage of the film's inflammatory nature to launch the
attack against the US embassy that resulted in the deaths of four people.
