Anti-US Protests Sweep Middle East

Three dead and 28 wounded in Tunis as riots spread across the Muslim world

Violent anti-US protests are taking place across the Middle East, and demonstrators are targeting American embassies in Tunisia, Yemen, and the Sudan.

Tunisia. In Tunis, a building close to the US embassy was set on fire (pictured above). Reports say the embassy itself has been set alight, as well as the American school. Three protestors are dead and 28 injured, according to Reuters.

Sudan. protesters set the German embassy in Khartoum on fire and attacked the US embassy. Police fired on the protestors, some were injured, and reports say that one protestor was killed during a chase with riot police.

Yemen. Police have been holding protestors back from the US embassy. On Thursday four people were killed by police as they tried to storm the building.

Lebanon. A protestor was killed, and a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant was set on fire.

What should the US do in response to these protests?

    The US needs to evacuate these embassy's and get our citizens out of harms way first and foremost. At that point we need to seriously evaluate our ties w/ the government and the protection they should be providing to our ambassadors.

    @ir0nw0lfe Why? would christians and Semitic's riot like the middle east do? And does it matter? Any hate video is wrong.

    These protests shouldn't surprise anyone if you know about the middle east. The only difference is that the first shot came from America.

    @ir0nw0lfe My point is, if someone made a video all about hating black people, there would be a reaction from the black communitte. The same goes with this anti islamic video/movie.

    And with the amount of news thats comming out of the middle east these days, you have got to be living under a rock if you made a video about this and not expect this kind of consequence.

    Stop all aid to the ME until they can control their own people. Close the Embassies. Apologize emphatically to Israel for being ignorant.(Why not we've apologized to everyone else.) The president needs to take hard stance and denounce these attackers as enemies of the US and warn the any further attacks will result in reprisals against those involved and loss of aid to the host nation.

    This us the Arab Spring so many wanted and tried to convince the American public was a peaceful democratic movement. There can be no peace while fanatics, who follow a religion that calls for death to all infidels, are allowed to tom free and are supported directly and indirectly by the leaders of these countries.

    Arab Spring? Democratic movement Ridiculous. We just financed our enemies into positions of power and now this administration is at a loss over how these things could occurred? Obama got exactly the situation he wanted in the ME and now he's shocked that they dont listen to him. Shocker. You are dealing with radicals that even Thomas Jefferson knew better than to negotiate with. Time to step down and at least have the decency to look embarassed over the mess your foreign policy has wrought!

    A little off subject BUUUT. Our embassy guards are not allowed to carry loaded weapons. What about embassy guards for foreign ambassadors in our country? Are they carrying loaded weapons in OUR country? If so, whos asss is phony here?

    In response, the U.S Marine Corps discredited the rumor, calling it "not accurate." From the Corps congressional liaison's memo:

    The Ambassador did not impose restrictions on weapons or weapons status on the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group (MCESG) detachment. The MCESG Marines in Cairo were allowed to have live ammunition in their weapons. The Ambassador and Regional Security Officer have been completely and appropriately engaged with the security situation. Reports of Marines not being able to have their weapons loaded per direction from the Ambassador are not accurate.

    Do you mean pull our troops out of their country, quit imposing our values and way of life on them, and stop stealing their resources so our corporate masters can make another trillion dollars, gamble it away and regain their loses by swindling it from the taxpayers, and end our policy of bombing them when they don't bend to our will? That's a good idea. Then what reason could they have to be pissed at us?

    We should bring our people home and protect them. Being our military home so that is possible. You wanna bomb? Use Drones! ThePresident has more than shown his willingness to use them before.

    Perhaps its time to either effectively cut ourselves off from the middle east completely and re-enforce our security here at home from future terrorist attacks, or go in with all guns blazing and clean house once and for all. The extremist Muslims cannot help themselves but to act like complete rabid animals, and we all know what needs to be done to get rid of a rabid animal. (those that remember Old Yeller know what I am talking about) These are people living meaningless lives offering nothing to the world but violence and disorder. They are like a cancerous growth on the human race, slowing and hindering the possibility for human progress. It's either that or pull up all our diplomats, etc. and bring them all home, then focus all the energy we used to place in the middle east trying to make sure things go smoothly and put it towards preventing future terrorist attacks on our soil. No matter who is president or what we do to play nice, it is clear their will always be that percentage of Muslims who wish to kill Americans and anyone else they can get their hands on who isn't a Muslim. They will always have it out for us, and will always be planning their next cowardly terrorist attack.

    The "religion of peace" at its finest. Maybe they are using our embassies as burnt offerings to Allah and killing our people as a blood sacrifice. Maybe we are misunderstanding their actions. I think we should help them with there offerings by sending in drones and leveling our embassies, after evacuated, I mean it is our sovreign soil. Maybe we can make a few martyrs.

They make walking bombs out of children & the mentally handicapped, abuse & mutilate women , attack & then hide in mosques behind women & children. Put on a uniform & face real soldier warriors on the battlefield. Take the politics out of it, arm the military & let the generals call the shots instead of some know nothing pansy politician.

    Fire Obamas Chief of staff, bring in troops to evac all embassies in the Arab world. Isreal has our back hopefully, but don't forget to protect forien nationals and allies. Bring them to the saudia arabian Air Force bases.

    Our embassies are being attacked in multiple middle east countries and the general consensus (with a few notable exceptions) is "these people are just nuts and attacking the good guys without justification". At some point one really has to stop and ask - is there maybe a valid reason for their anger and what can we do about it?
