Iran's President Says Israel Will Be 'Eliminated'

Ahmadinejad ignores a UN warning to stop the indendiary rhetoric

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad doesn't like to lose a chance of inflaming everyone with outrageous statements before the United Nations General Assembly, and today gave him one of those moments.

Of the Israelis, he said that "we don't even count them as any part of any equation for Iran...They represent minimal disturbances that come into the picture and are then eliminated." Ahmadinejad spoke through a translator, so we don't know exactly his original sentiment, but the statement as translated will be offensive to many.

Those remarks were part of a long interview from Ahmadinejad's New York hotel, in which he also announced that Israel has "no roots" in the Middle East. His statements seem to be a deliberate provocation, coming after a UN warning to avoid inflammatory rhetoric.

But Ahmadinejad adopted a seemingly more conciliatory tone over negotiating Iran's nuclear ambitions with the US. He said, "the approach of the United States on Iran is important. We are ready for dialogue, for a fundamental resolution of the problems, but under conditions that are based on fairness and mutual respect."

The White House immediately denounced Ahmadinejad's remarks as "characteristically disgusting, offensive and outrageous. They underscore again why America's commitment to the security of Israel must be unshakeable."

@Jack-Black why dont you ask yourself why Israel is Americas ONLY friend in that part of the world? maybe its because they are bombing innocent civilians in all of the other countries in that region on the basis that there "may" be weapons of mass destruction or that al qaeda is hiding there. So now lets go to facts, FACT 1: there were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq (the reason why they invaded) FACT 2: there is no evidence to support that Iran is making nukes, yet they are getting sanctioned and ganged up on by the whole world for signing the NPT and following all IAEA measures.

The only problem is Iran will not allow the inspectors into their military site where they work on their latest developments, can someone tell me the last time USA let anyone into where they develop their latest military developments?

On top of this the US and Israel both have nukes, Israel has refused to sign the NPT and the US shares its nukes with other NATO countries as part of their own treaty. Using common sense you can see who the real disturbers of peace in the world are.

Had Carter taken care of the problem in 1979 we probably would have put an end to radical Islam and hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved including three thousand American lives lost on 9/11. Perhaps the word "eliminated" in this context is referring to the "disturbances" and not "Israel".

I wouldn't put it past him to have worded it in a way that can be interpreted either way just in order to stoke the fire. Ahmadinejad is a typical fear-mongering dictator who keeps his power with angry rhetoric.

It's just sabber-rattling and that's all it will ever be, even if they get a nuclear weapon. What are they going to do with it? They know just one attack on anybody and we would carpet-bomb their country with our nukes.

Iran has never said it will eliminate or wipe israel off the map out of the blue, if anyone actually listens to what was said and not the speculation about what was said on the media then they would actually see whats going on. Iran has always maintained the same stance that IF IT WAS ATTACKED by Israel then they will respond by eliminating Israel. They have never threatened Israel, only that they will respond if attacked. As part of International law you cannot threaten another country, funny how Israel is threatening Iran nearly every day with military air-strikes on its facilities but this is not pulled up as a violation of international law.

Maybe if obama apologizes a little harder to Ahmadinejad then maybe he will reconsider his hateful rhetoric. obama is a Muslim, but he's not a major player. He's not one that other Muslims listen to. We need a true American president, one born and raised in these here great ol' United States and one who has a healthy dose of American pride.

This needs to be an American century and for that to happen we need a president with the guts to tell Ahmadinejad what kind of degenerate leader he is.
