12 hr LEC v I'm not sure I am of a mind that wars are too easy... the first ones to war should be the sons and daughters of our politicians and maybe we should go back to using swords or knifes.. close up fighting.. not this distance hidden in a control room thousands of miles away... This is all starting to remind me of an original Star Trek episode where wars were fought by computers and the "causalities" were send to evaporation modules. Wars could go on forever as long as the infrastructure stays in place. Post
Sun PaulUK2901 v Yes, they do more harm Drone strikes create the terrorists of tomorrow. Too stupid a policy to even contemplate. Post
May 17 DrFunkenstein v No, they do more good I see drones as nothing more than safer air strikes where the pilot is free from harm. I prefer our military not be captured and tortured so I would like to see more drone attacks as long as they are more careful to not harm the civilian population. Post
May 14 falco_alba v Yes, they do more harm The second our enemies can use the same technology, we will rue the day we ever thought they were a good thing. Post
u May 13 songbird v No, they do more good It's a weapon of war so it can be used for good and evil. It depends on the man operating the drone and his immediate supervisor who gives him his orders and feedback on situations. Post
May 13 PJS1973 v No, they do more good Its another instrument of warfare, and is no more harmful or good than a rifle. I say "more good" because it allows a more efficient and safe (for Americans) response, and many times with less collateral damage (than an artillery barrage, infantry company assault, etc). I think a more fair question would be to ask how to best employ drone strikes, and who should control them. Post
May 13 DARSB v I'm not sure I'm in favor of keeping our troops as safe as we can and drones do accomplish that. On the other hand there are some credible reports that drone attacks are radicalizing people who might otherwise have not taken up with extremists. It's time for some new ideas. Post
u May 8 URBS v No, they do more good As long as Obama doesn't get his way and use them against US Citizens. Post
May 5 Goose v Yes, they do more harm Tell us all about the "good" achieved by bombing civilians in countries we aren't even at war with. And we do it by remote control, without risking the life of a single pilot - while calling terrorists "cowardly". Post
May 3 Food4thoughts v I'm not sure Making war easier and more convenient...is a scary slippery slope :-/ Post
o Apr 30 GvtMule v No, they do more good They are fantastic if used correctly. Like any weapon it can be misused. Post
Apr 29 MarkColwell v Yes, they do more harm Over the short term I suspect they do a lot of good, anyone suspected of posing a threat to US interests is simply killed. That alone has probably prevented hundreds of terror attacks. Over the long term, I beleive they do great damage to our interests. 1. There is no trial, no due process... just an execution. We are redefining our values for the world. 2. When we execute these potential threats, innocent bystanders are also killed. 3. When we plant terror in the hearts of our enemies, we can expect them to redouble thier efforts to return the favor. As we sow, so shall we reap. 4. We undermine our efforts to get countries like Iran and Venezuela to abide by ... Post

Apr 28 Prime_Meridian v No, they do more good If they weren't doing the USA good, folks wouldn't be complaining about them. This is where the really big expenditures ought to be in the Defense Budget, rather than on new Nuclear this, or that, or super-advanced multifunction jet fighters that spend more time in the maintenance hangar than in the air, lol. Post
Apr 28 NoAmnestyEVER v Yes, they do more harm Thanks to Obama's ILLEGAL drone attacks on TEN SOVEREIGN COUNTRIES and 12 AMERICAN CITIZENS plus his REFUSAL TO SECURE OUR BORDERS, America is less safe than at any time in history. Obama should be tried for murder and left to the families of the innocent children he killed. Post
Nov '12 Smoovious v I'm not sure A drone can be useful against a certain class of targets... say, like you want to take out a bridge to cut off an advancing enemy force, or a confirmed government building, or power generation... something that is static... but when it comes to moving forces themselves, that is harder to determine friend/foe/non-combatant... better to use them purely for surveillance then. One of the problems with our increasing reliance of drones, is it has a tendency to remove ourselves from what battle is supposed to be. It stops being personal. It becomes a game, and war should be serious business. Hands-on. Taking other people's lives, shouldn't be done on the increasingly casual ... Post
u Oct '12 Azoetia v Yes, they do more harm I would be completely in favour of drone attacks if not for the collateral damage. Post
u Oct '12 Vet v No, they do more good They do more good. They aid in taking care of the enemy, before the enemy can take care of us, & our soldiers..!! B2 r2 replies e33 endorsed Post
Oct '12 Lpguy v Yes, they do more harm Yes! they cause collateral damage killing innocent people, they hit groups just to get one target, they are flying in countries we have no business being in, they are poor reflection of the USA in parts of the world. we drone strike folks all over the middle east and then wonder why they hate us?! Oct '12 CanisCanemEdit v Yes, they do more harm Drones are not accurate war machines, but weapons of mass destruction. Drone strikes at best kill innocent people with each attack. The accuracy of the drones is suspect. Had drone attacks been used by a Republican president, the media and the Democrats would be up in arms. B3 r23 replies e1 endorsed Post
Oct '12 stepped_in_it v No, they do more good Same as using Harpoon missiles and "smart" bombs. There will ALWAYS be collateral damage, even if a human is involved! B1 e3 endorsed Post
Oct '12 ir0nw0lfe v I'm not sure Fear can be a good thing. The question is more of a cost vs. benefit ratio. I would have to carefully scrutinize the accuracy of our Intel and the value of the target against the possible collateral damage while I know these cowards hide among women and children for exactly this reason, it is a dangerous thing to affect a stroke that kills the target but breeds a new generation of terrorists intent on avenging the loss create by the innocent casualties of that same strike. While innocence may be relative to us it won't be in their perception. I don't think drone strikes save American boots on the ground as much as simply postpone the butcher's bill for another time and... B1 e3 endorsed Post
Oct '12 gammler v I'm not sure It's a hard question to answer. They certainly get the terrorist's attention. On the other hand there is always a possibility of collateral damage or poor intelligence causing the drone to hit the wrong target. There are also issues of sovereignty. It does the US no good to kill terrorist "X" and turning the country that he was living in against us. One thing is certain, however. A drone beats US "boots on the ground". e3 endorsed Post
u Oct '12 Suff v Yes, they do more harm So killing American aid-workers is okay as long as it ''strikes fear into terrorists''? You're absolutely ridiculous, and should feel very ashamed to believe that the blood of your own people, good people, should be used as cannon-fodder by your own bombs and equipment. I am absolutely stunned.. I can not believe Americans feel that aid-workers killed by drones, ''strike fear'', and that it is somehow a ''good thing''. I feel so sick to my stomach; Americans are heartless, even to their own. B2 e1 endorsed Post
