The country's third largest mosque was the target of an arsonist who caused over a million dollars in damages, Salonreports by way of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the civil rights watchdog group.
The Islamic Center of Toledo, Ohio and its patrons are the victims of yet another incident in a rash of crimes aimed at Muslims that have taken place since the start of the year, according to the SPLC. The perpetrator in this case, 52-year-old truck driver Randy Linn, was identified via surveillance cameras at the mosque setting the fire, and may now face federal hate crime charges on top of two counts of aggravated arson, aggravated burglary, and carrying a concealed weapon.
According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the US is witnessing a hostility toward religious minorities not seen in decades. "I don't think we've seen this kind of intolerance since before the civil rights movement," said CAIR's Julia Shearson, who places much of the blame on the "far-right media blogosphere that gives a green light to extremists."
"We're actually reeling in disbelief," said the Toledo mosque's president, Dr. Mahjabeen Islam. "If our mosque had not been made of brick and concrete, it would have burned to the ground."
@real_voter What makes you think my church is filty? By making that statement you are obviously taking sides and insinuating that the christians must have done it. And making me wonder if you are one of the muslim sleeper cell members in this country that I have been warning people about.
@CATTLEPROD Most of us atheists aren't advocating violence. It is an assumption he made that he was a Christian but an assumption that goes with history. Hating Christianity and its vileness doesn't make one a Muslim. The poster appeared to making a point that it is hypocrisy to criticize Islam for being violent if you support or advocate violence yourself. A church that teaches its members to imitate Jesus wouldn't be filthy. If you are representative of your church, your church is filthy and disgusting.
By the way Mr. liberal, progressive, the tolerant amongst us, I love your use of the term hillbilly, a derogatory term used to describe members of my kin from kentucky. Good people who dont fit your agenda. Had I been any other ethnic group that would have been disallowed in your universe wouldnt it? Gotta love the hypocracy, double standards and elitism of the left, comrade.
@CATTLEPROD I will not pretend to be tolerant of the intolerant. I've met quite a few good people from KY. This guy is not good people. He is no better then a Muslim extremists. Just as the Americans at the Libyan embassy has nothing to do with the stupid movie about Mohammad the people at this mosque had nothing to do with the Libyan terrorists.
Welll....yes. With Muslim backed (ok, so they don't come out and say they back it) terrorism and their angry towards west "infidels", you can expect retaliation. Do i support....no. But, this isn't the first thing happening in this country I don't support but understand why it's happening.
This is not how we beat them. Violence makes them the victim or a martyr. Both of which make them sympathetic to the public. We show them a better way not more of the same. This act is the same as their reactions overseas and is unacceptable.
So much for the land of religious freedom and tolerance! If the USA is to be a beacon of such freedom do we then become exactly like the disaffected fringe element of Islam? Violence is never an answer. I know Moslem's, work and socialise with them and have always found them decent people. It is rather sad that there is always a scape goat for our troubles and woes. Be it Catholics, Jews, Mormons, there is always some group that needs a good kicking! Hell some of these Moslem haters and islamphobes are so well informed they cannot tell the difference between a Moslem and a Sikh! You would think if they are going to attack a Mosque they would bother to find the right place of worship to fire bomb ! The ignorant lobbying petrol bombs...! If this carries on Americans will be killing Americans and who wins then?
@ibcingu not really. If you read any of the posts I've left here I think you would see otherwise. I just don't undetsysnd why you would make a baseless accusation while railing at others on this story for doing likewise.
@ibcingu no, because there's nothing in the story that tells you anything about this guys beliefs. But please don't let facts get in the way of your stereotyping. Liberalism is merely immaturity clothed in the pretense of moral and intellectual superiority.(I love that quote!)
Yeah it looks like resentment is building up towards muslims. If they were cooler maybe it wouldnt be so bad. its up to the non radical faction within islam to speak up loudly and renounce and denounce the extremists in there midst. They are not doing a very good job at it, and it doesnt help that our own president is supporting the worst of them overseas.
What's wrong with it ? Muslims burn their own mosques, assassinate their own in mosques, fire weapons from mosques ,teach hate in mosques, store explosives and teach other Muslims how to use them in mosques and the list is endless.
I'm about as anti-Islam as you can get, but your brush is way too wide. Your tribal logic is that if a member of their tribe does any thing against any member of your tribe, then any member of your tribe has the right to do anything to any member of their tribe. Obviously you need to take a long look in the mirror.
Its thier scyzophrenic thinking. Always remember: It's O.K. if THEY do it. They will demand your tolerance of thier religion while cutting your head off. And use our religious freedoms to do just what you described in the mosques over here so when the sleeper cells in this country are given thier orders, they will be ready. I will head back down to appalachia with my kin. They aint gettin thru them thar hills.
It is kind of like a sign-wave. Up and down. It isn't anything like after 9/11/2001 but the murder of our people in Libya by Islamists is bring it back up. Still there is more cases worldwide of religions intolerance towards Christians that any other religious group.
