Romney Leads Obama 49-45 in New Poll

What does the poll mean?

For weeks Republicans raised hell about an alleged pro-Obama bias among pollsters. But with a new Pew poll that puts Romney up over Obama 49-45, some Democrats are claiming polling bias in the other direction.

The Pew poll not only gives Romney a 4-point lead in the wake of his stellar debate performance. It also shows a 12-point swing in his direction since the last Pew poll in September, and it shows Romney up an amazing 18 points among women voters, completely erasing Obama's longstanding lead with the ladies.

How much reason do Democrats have to allege bias in this poll? None at all, writes polling guru Nate Silver in the New York Times. The complaint that this Pew poll "oversamples" Republicans is bogus, just as it was when Republicans claimed polls "oversampled" Democrats. That's because most polls (including this one) don't actually adjust the proportions of Dems and Republicans in their sample.

The Pew poll may be statistical noise, Silver says, since other national polls, including Gallup and Rasmussen, put Obama and Romney neck and neck. And liberal polling outfit Public Policy Polling gives Romney a 2-point lead over Obama, at 49-47.

Thats funny...in other polls released today its either close or Obamas leading. In the Gallup presidential tracking poll President Obama has increased his lead to 5% nationally. Over in the Rasmussen Reports presidential tracking poll the presidential race is a tie between President Obama and Mitt Romney. Both candidates were at 48% nationally. Polls mean nothing.

Basically what Im trying to say is...it all depends on whos poll you look at and who is being polled. Polls also said Gingrich was the favorite... how'd that turn out?

It means the same as the other polls. That there are some that support Romney and some that support Obama. Translation - Nothing.
It's not representative of how the Electoral College will vote, so who cares what Americans think? These men don't need your damn vote unless you live in a Swing State. If you do? Huzzah for you! Your vote counts!!

@910disaster It means that several states (swing states) decide the election every four years. If you live in a Red state or Blue state, your vote is worthless.

I wouldn't be surprised if Romney took the lead after the first debate. He did flat out win that debate and Obama was looking dumbfounded. However, the only poll I care about is the national one in November.

Who cares? Polls have gone back & forth throughout this entire thing, the only thing that hasn't changed is the Electoral College projection, that STILL has President Obama leading by approx. 100 points. Even the odds makers have never waivered from their bets on Obama.

It means that in the debate Romney did a very good job of putting to bed many of the outright lies Obama and his talking heads have been throwing out, repeated over and over by a compliant press, and showed the country that pretty much everything Obama had been saying was a lie, a misrepresentation, a falsehood. As usual the democrats went overboard in slandering what America saw as a steady, reasonable, non-crazed, man with a plan. A man who wasn't going to raise the taxes of the middle class, debunked and debunked again and again. Yet, Obama is STILL out there saying the same old lies of his whole campaign. I saw a letter in our local paper that some lemming wrote that stated that all we had to do was look at Romney, the MORMAN, and we could see that his eyes wildly stared and twitched with the unholy light of a mad man. Truly, some lemming actually wrote that and the local paper actually printed it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the mind of the base that Obama is courting. Pretty scary.
