Late-Night Romney Jokes Trump Obama Jokes by More Than 2-to-1

The belly laugh bias isn't in the Republican's favor, says study

A university study (of all things) has found that late-night comics have been making Mitt Romney the butt of their jokes at a rate of more than 2-to-1 when compared to rival Barack Obama.

That fact may explain, writes The Globe and Mail's Simon Houpt, why Romney has been so careful to avoid the late-night celebrity circuit. While Obama has been making the rounds with everyone from Jay Leno to Jon Stewart, Romney has so far shied away from meeting with the funnymen.

"The Romney camp might be justified in seeing the late-night shows as hostile territory," says Houpt. "The four major late-night hosts on broadcast networks - Letterman, Leno, Craig Ferguson, and Jimmy Fallon - have made more than twice as many jokes about Mr. Romney than Mr. Obama."

So what's so un-funny about the President? No one knows. Not even "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels, arguably the world's biggest current peddler of political impersonations. When asked by The New York Times in September what Obama's "comedy hook" was, exactly, Michaels confessed he wasn't quite sure. "So far we haven't found it," he told the paper.

In my opinion you are neither leaderless nor embarassed. It's a long time since the last time we have laughed so little about your country.

Some of us foreigners may have started to laugh a little more about your country lately, though. Not because of your president, but because we find a lot of the opinions and ignorance of the extreme right wing both laughable and out of touch with the real world.

How long did it take them to figure that out? I don't think Romney was ever attempting to come off as a 'dude'. It says alot about Obama. The countries going to hell in a handbasket and he's more worried about talkshows and photo ops than actually doing anything about it. The morning after Benghazi he flew to Vegas less than 24 hours later to do a fundraiser with a bunch of dimwit actors.

Tell me how many stories did you hear about the Ambassador's death scandal from any network other than Fox news? What do you think would have happened if George Bush had told the military to stand down while the four men were killed in our Embassy? Do you think the networks would have been talking about Halloween and the weather? It is truly traitorous & I believe we should boycott the sponsors of these networks who bury Obama's scandals while crucifying Romney over any gaff he might make.
