Senate Majority Leader promises more stalemate in Congress

Harry Reid has shored up his reputation as Mitt Romney's arch-enemy by announcing that a Democrat-controlled Senate would block Romney's every move.

"Romney's fantasy that Senate Democrats will work with him to pass his 'severely conservative' agenda is laughable. In fact, Mitt Romney's Tea Party agenda has already been rejected in the Senate," said Reid. He went on the list Republican laws that Romney supports and the Senate has rejected in the past, including Paul Ryan's budget.

"Mitt Romney has demonstrated that he lacks the courage to stand up to the Tea Party, kowtowing to their demands time and again," Reid added. And, he went on, Romney "had a terrible relationship with Democrats" while governing Massachusetts.

Reid's dream of Senate stalemate could become reality if Romney wins the presidency, since Dems have a 91.6% chance of holding a Senate majority, according to analyst Nate Silver.

Republicans in Congress have often been accused of obstructionism by Democrats, including Harry Reid himself. But now that the shoe is on the other foot, Reid seems to have no trouble embracing obstructionist tactics for his own side.

The party of revenge is already making plans to keep the american people down.Romney talks about working with both sides and Reid is plannig to block the return of employment for people if it is a republican initiative. With President Romney, Harry Reid is assuming that he will be senate majority leader. This is wishful thinking on his part. Come Senate inaugural day January 3, 2013, Reid, like Nancy Pelosi before him, will be reduced to minority leader status.

And on Presidential inaugural day January 20, 2013, Reid and Pelosi will have to deal with a Republican President and a majority in the House as well as the Senate.

They can kick and scream all they want but like any bully, once you stand up to them, they aren't so tough, especially Reid who appears to be a wimp but acts tough when someone has his back.

Romney has Ronald Reagan like qualities and when the congressional Democrats drag their heels Romney will appeal to the American people and together we will rebuild America.

With this outcome I predict some Democrats will retire from Congress.

@TheLoneRanger Sen Reid only becomes minority leader if the GOP retakes the Senate' and that, thanks to Akin, Mourdock, and Brown, is very unlikely. Additionally, with those insane Senate rules requiring 60 votes for approval and allowing a Senator to place anonymous "holds" on bills, it doesn't take a majority to block legislation, as Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul have repeatedly demonstrated.

@marine1 -- While I don't condone Reid in his intention, I can understand. Mitch McConnell, in a 2010 interview, stated in no uncertain terms that the GOP's ONLY goal was to prevent Obama from having any success at all and keep him from being elected to a second term. It was their only agenda, regardless of what we, the people, needed them to do. Also, on the evening of Obama's inaugural in 2009, Paul Ryan held chair over a meeting of House Republicans, the purpose of which was to strategize on ways of blocking any Obama-backed legislation that came to the House. You want thugs and gangsters, look to the GOP.

Great post. This is the exact argument the Dems had while holding the Oval Office, House and Senate. During that time they had all the cards and couldn't quit arguing amongst themselves long enough to pass a budget.

Amusing to me that once the Republicans came into power in the congress they started blaming them for obstructionism.

Now the vile Mr. Reid has, in no uncertain terms, promised to obstruct Mr. Romney every step of the way.

ONE man, Mitch McConnell, after the 2010 election BTW, said that they would make him a one term president UNLESS he worked with Republicans and that if he crossed the aisle they would be happy to work WITH the president. What Harry meant......if Romney does somehow steal the election.......Bush tax cuts will still expire, the estate tax will stay firmly in place, abortion law won't change, and the wheels of government will come to a screeching halt for Romney's every Supreme Court nominee. @Tralee -- On the very evening of Obama's inaugural, Paul Ryan, the current VP candidate, chaired a meeting of House Republicans to plan how to block any legislation coming through the House that was backed by Obama. Just because the Democrats had a majority at that time doesn't mean there weren't ways for a large enough minority to cause gridlock. It wasn't just Senator McConnell in 2010, it was the GOP in general, determined to make Obama a one-term president at any cost, even if said cost was on our shoulders.
