Religious diversity in Congress has been amped up a few notches by Hawaii. The island state just elected Hindu Tulsi Gabbard to the House and Buddhist Senator Mazie Hirono to the Senate, both of them Democrats.
When Gabbard takes her oath of office in January 2013, she'll be sworn in over the Bhagavad Gita, Hinduism's sacred book. Hirono, as a Buddhist, was sworn in to Congress in 2007 with no book at all.
