Ron Paul on American Voters: 'Oh, We Have to be Taken Care Of!'

Paul sees little to celebrate in Obama's victory

Assuming you've been dying to know what rogue Republican Ron Paul is thinking in the aftermath of Obama's re-election, here it is.

The Washington Times passes along Paul's post-election words to Bloomberg Television, and unfortunately for Paul fans, they're a whole lot less glowing than the gold bars he'd like to see backing every US dollar.

"'Oh, we have to be taken care of!'" said the congressman, mimicking the American voter he sees as having rejected Romney for his opposition to the auto bailouts. As for the upcoming "fiscal cliff" that will test any vestige of bipartisan agreement, Paul was no less gloomy. "We're so far gone, we're over the cliff," he said.

I like Ron Paul on many things but he is wrong on this. It's not the American people saying they have to be taken care of. It's Corporate America that takes all the money out of Washington D.C.. They do whatever they want and if it collapses they don't care. The Govt will take care of them. That's why they spend 6 billion in a national election on President and Congress. The ultra rich don't want to pay one dime more in taxes but they can spend 6 billion to influence an election. On both sides. Today we don't vote for a person. We vote for which ultra rich we wnat to support. The GOP supports the oil companies and the war machine. The Dems support everyone else.

You want to know how many income tax forms I fill out every year? FOUR. That's right. FOUR. I pay a total combined rate of 42% split up among the federal govt, the state, and two cities, one of which I don't even live in. According to Team Obama, I am the enemy. I have not had a tax "refund" from any taxing authority in EIGHT YEARS. The underclass pays zero in taxes yet gets refunds of an average $8000 every year via various gimmedat programs.

I agree with you that too many Americans look to DC for their survival. But this isn't unique to one political party... As jesse stated, rich people think congress should pass laws that give them financial benefits when capitalism should, by defnition, take care of itself. If a company fails, then it should shut down. Bad business practice is the best reason for a company to shut its doors and make room for businesspeople who don't screw up. Everyone wants a bailout/handout... not just liberals and not just the poor. And by the way, no one gets away with paying NO taxes... as you stated, even if the federal income tax isn't paid by all, there are many other taxes everyone pays. Even min wage workers pay out 30%+ in combined taxes.

They run off to D.C. and get more laws to protect them. They outsource jobs. The rich got the largest tax cut in history under Reagan, again under Bush II and extended by Obama. And we've lost 12 million jobs. This nonsense that letting the rich off the hook for taxes will create jobs has been proven not to work. The problem in this country is people who goose step to party lines. It will not change until a significent amount of people start voting Libertarian or Green or some third party and both the Dems and GOP feel threatened in their Ivory Towers.

@CanisCanemEdit The real thinking man? I think not. The real thinking man does not believe in 'market correction' as Ron Paul does because it simply does not exist. When all that matters is money and profit, those with the most money and profit make the rules, something libertarians can't seem to admit. There needs to be checks and balances, it is the corporations job to make as much profit as possible, it isgovts responsibility is to protect its citizens through laws and make sure corporations aren't taking advantage of citizens to make that profit, it is the people's job to make sure govt doesn't go overboard through the voting process. Take any of those away, like taking away one of the branches of the federal govt, and the whole system becomes corrupt.

@AceLuby Business cannot have profit without customers. Businesses HAVE to compete or the next company with a better product, process, or pitch will eat them alive. These same consumers are the voters for the government and hold them equally accountable. Our whole economy and way of life is based off of market correction.

@Hireman Ideally that would be true, however, we don't live in an ideal world. Large businesses have the ability to take losses for extended periods of time to drive out competition. Large businesses can sue small businesses w/ trivial lawsuits to manipulate competition. Businesses can pollute our air and water, but due to an inelastic demand of their product (like electricity) there is no market correction. We are also in a global world where there are only a handful of major corporations that own most of the large businesses across the globe, and therefore have little or no competition to begin with. Then there's the ability for large businesses to control the wages of their employees, so when people are forced to vote with their dollar those businesses know that they will have little to vote with. Also, for the last 75 years we've used the Keynesian theory of economics, which is not based off of market correction, but off of balance of govt intervention and market forces and it has led to the largest growth in human history. If you don't think there needs to be a balance I highly urge you to take a local economics course.

The simple truth is that more than one half the people do need to be taken care of to some extent. They are followers, not leaders. The mean IQ is 100. That means that one half the population is no smarter than average and many much less so.
