Jun 14 Bluephoenix v No, they shouldn't The way teaching is in our country, this would give just another opportunity for the liberal preachers, I mean teachers, to spout their viewpoints. Post
Jun 8 ccchhhrrriiiss v Yes, they should YES! However, they shouldn't be influenced by their teachers' own political persuasions. Post
May 31 RedFloppyShoes v Yes, they should BUT...it would have to depend on the grade level and that it is framed in an age appropriate manner. (Since the public schools are run by unions, I think it would end up being one sided) Post
May 28 N0rthman v Yes, they should I think kids should be taught to objectively look at the different issues from different perspectives and not from any politicians opinion. Choices and opinions should be respected and tolerated. Post

May 25 Prime_Meridian v No, they shouldn't I'm very cynical. With the prevalence of Left-leaning teachers in our educational system, schools would become even greater high-efficiency political lemming manufacturers. There's a difference between Social Studies/Current Events being taught and politics being taught. I'm not against social studies or current events being taught, hell, we had a TREMENDOUSLY INTERESTING class in our high school called "Contemporary Problems", patterned after the US Senate/US House of Representatives, where each one of us were responsible for introducing at least 3 Bills during the semester, and debating/supporting for their enactment. "Teaching Politics" has a high poten... Post
May 25 scotta v Yes, they should I think it would give them a leg up on the real world and get them ready to vote. Post
May 24 dontmatter v No, they shouldn't too many, at least 85% of the teachers are left leaning union thugs, so clearly there is bias here and should not be allowed! Post
May 24 Nurse8493 v Yes, they should Jesus, my savior, even preached against the politics of Cesar. Post
u May 23 HMB1114 v No, they shouldn't As if there isn't enough indoctrination going on in the classroom. Post
May 21 Dan_Tien v No, they shouldn't Leave them out of the partisan hyper-drama called contemporary politics until they are ready to vote. Let them believe in Santa Claus and mature adults until they grow up and learn the truth for themselves. Post
May 21 Smoothbeartoo v No, they shouldn't NO! Because most teachers are biased way leftwing. Leftwing politics is like a religion to the left. If we leave Christianity out of the classroom, then ALL religion, including liberal progressive socialist democrat party religion, has also to be left off. B1 e1 endorsed Post
May '13 marine1 v No, they shouldn't It is most likely safe to say that a third of todays teachers are not doing a good job with just basice education. I shutter to think about them molding political opinion in the minds of our teenagers. Post
u May '13 seedtick v Yes, they should Yes, but it should be a high school senior year elective. And, there must be definite rules about how the subject is presented. Statements made by teachers to eighteen year olds can be very persuasive. Post
May '13 armed_liberal v No, they shouldn't I don't want our teachers influencing which party to vote for at a young, impressionable age. B1 Post
May '13 AndrewMC v Yes, they should Of course. Most of the questions students will have will come from issues in contemporary politics. But like religion, dwelling on the activities, philosophies and viewpoints of contemporary politicians would be unnecessarily divisive. Post
May '13 AlexNWA v Yes, they should Couldn't this be seen as teaching obscenities? As citizens, they're going to participate in the voting process very soon and need as much information as possible on how to spot propaganda. Post
u May '13 n1wp v Yes, they should Reading is a good thing! If they can read, the little idiots should! Post
u May '13 acg v No, they shouldn't If politics is taught at school then other people's views will be pressed on the students. Students should be taught history and then get to make their own decisions. Post
Nov '12 Zazziness v Yes, they should Why wouldn't they be taught politics? As citizens, they're going to participate in the voting process very soon. e38 endorsed Post
Nov '12 Bobolinsky v Yes, they should I'm fine with it... so long as there are prerequisites... In addition to three years of American History, I'd also require a class on the Constitution... Otherwise it would devolve into nothing more than a teacher's union-influenced schoolhouse version of MSNBC. B3 e15 endorsed Post
Nov '12 HughAkston v No, they shouldn't I have a better idea. Why not teach kids how to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic. One of our biggest problems is that we have been churning out generations of semi-literate young people despite the billions of dollars spent on education annually. Has anybody seen graduation rates from public schools in any major city? Has anybody compared how well our students perform compared to students from other nations? You can't have a modern society without literate people folks! Stop using valuable classroom time for nonsense. There's enough time for political indoctrination if and when these young people go to University. In the interim, let's start teaching kids to... B1 r7 replies e9 endorsed Post
Nov '12 FFX_VA v No, they shouldn't Teach them our history & how government works, leave kid politics to who gets to go across the monkey bars first. Don't burden them with contempt politics, let them enjoy being kids. B2 e6 endorsed Post
Nov '12 Trshev v Yes, they should Yes, but the real challenge will be finding unbiased teachers who will give a fair and balanced perspective. e6 endorsed Post
u Nov '12 Tolpuddle v Yes, they should Indeed they should. After countless "debates" with people this election cycle I was flabbergasted to respond to so many people who believed they understood how our Government works yet didn't and probably still don't, thus were stuck with "conspiracy theories" to decide their vote. If anyone at all choose to believe whomever our President is, is solely responsible for all things that happen, you yourself need to attend some of these classes. Especially the part that deals with Congress. I personally would like to also see classes that teach a person about cause and effect. To many it seemed only chose to look at the effect of whatever transpired but failed to see the e... e4 endorsed Post
Nov '12 Thunderchicken v Yes, they should Taught, no. Encouraged to be involved and discuss, yes. For our current events when I was in grade school, we were assigned a different news show weekly. We had to turn in a one page synopsis of the show and then participate in a discussion of last nights show. Kinda like we do here. IIRC we also had a media class where we learned about the different methods of reporting and advertising. FWIW in one of my kids classes this year, they had groups to run various people for president. Her group ran Hitler and lost to some rapper. Next the rapper goes against the teacher who's stumping for Elmo. It's exercises like this that interest the kids and let them learn. r3 replies e4 endorsed Post
o Nov '12 NO-BAMA v Yes, they should Why not? Teach them how the founding fathers of the country wanted the country to be. The Constitution, every vote counts, being INFORMED on the candidates and voting for the country as a whole. Which will be a difficult task due to the liberal indoctrination process that occurs in schools today, right up through the "higher education" institutions. A class on actual American history would be a good start also. Not the "wannabe" history that's pushed today. Immigrants that come to this country legally know more about this countries history than these kids that are being pumped through the public, (union ran) school systems. Take some of these recent graduates and se... r8 replies e4 endorsed Post
