Reports of marijuana legalization in Colorado and Washington may have been greatly exaggerated. At least, that's the mindset of federal experts who've fought to keep marijuana illegal, according to a Politico article outlining possible federal responses to marijuana legalization.
While the federal government cannot force a state to either make something a crime or force a state to prosecute residents on federal law, it can argue that a state doesn't have the authority to regulate marijuana on its own, according to Politico.
