Evangelical leaders spanning liberal and conservative are appealing to the POTUS, House and Senate to move forward on a "comprehensive" immigration reform bill in the first 3 months of Obama's administration.
The coalition that includes
Focus on the Family on the right and
Sojourners on the left is asking, as
Talking Points Memo reports, for a "bipartisan bill that emphasizes the dignity of every person, guarantees secure borders, and 'establishes a path toward legal status and/or citizenship for those who qualify and who wish to become permanent residents.'"
As
TPM's Pema Levy notes, the growth in the evangelical movement in recent years has come disproportionately from Latinos. It's a fact not missed on Rev. Gabriel Salguero of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition, who trumpets the coalition's "united front on one of the most intractable issues of our day."
