As someone who used to live in Texas, Austin basically a communist compound surrounded by conservatives (and crazy neocons/Xitian fundies in Houston). If Texas secedes, it'll probably end up getting nuked. So I would call all of that win-win-win.

even though hes a republican i agree with Perry. i don't understand why a state would want to secede from the greatest nation in the world, and Austin would be doing the right thing by staying with the US.i think all it is is a bunch of the republicans in Texas are mad just because Romney didn't get voted in and the whole threatening of secession is just their way of venting their dislike for our president.i dont see it really happening but if it does like i said in another post stop all welfare disability and medicare for texas because they want to become a country of its own so let them figure out how to do their own medicare and disability

When "greatest nation in the world," ceases to be so, then it's time to do something about it. I can understand whole heartedly why some are asking for secession. The rumblings of a 2nd civil war have been going on since Clinton was elected. Now it is even more so. But this time it won’t be the North against the South it will be the left against the right, liberals against conservatives and Patriots against socialists.

Texas has the 15th largest economy in the world. I think they'll do just fine when they are able to patrol and close their own borders with no interference from DC and pass new laws regarding illegals, welfare and education. Remember the Alamo !

@ST_Louie_Sue Please do not be so naive to associate patriotism with loyalty to the right. Liberals that fight for their FREEDOM are just as patriotic as Conservatives fighting for theirs.

@ST_Louie_Sue just to refresh your memory clinton did more for this country in 8 years than regan and bush did in 16.second if you dont think america is the greatest nation on earth why dont you move to the mid east im sure you would love it there.even though texas has the 15th largest economy in the states doesnt mean they will do fine because when if it becomes a nation of its own it will have to deal with the same issues and many more.instead of shipping something from alabama to texas it will be considered importing and would cost a lot more, plus are they going to elect a king or president im sure it would be a king and gw would have the throne which would mean texas would crumble like a cracker with him in charge he already about bankrupted the US what do you think he would do to texas.at least people of austin has enough sense to stay with the US because they know if texas does secede it wont be long until mexico will take texas back

Well, good for Austin. But do they realize they'd have to set up border crossings and check passports of all those other Texans who want to illegally drive through Austin?

I barely believe it will happen but if the White House has the petition section "We the people," leave the decision to the state through votes.
  • !
@IraqWarVeteran Well, good luck with that. I personally don't think you guys who are signing this petition have thought of the consequences for your own state if you do this but it's your right to do things in haste out of hate if you choose to.

As opposed to the current Right leaning court bending it anyway they want? Corporations are people - Yeah that stretched the ole Constitution some.

Texas wants to secede from the Union? Didn't they try this back in 1861?
Apparently the descendants of those confederate kooks are every bit as deranged as their ancestors.
I wonder if Mexico will move to "reclaim" the land they believe to be theirs should the Lone Star Locos actually do secede?
Of course, the sane and rational among us know this is going NOWHERE.

I believe I distinctly hear a thumbsucking, whining, snivelling cry of...
"We couldn't get our crackpot, cowboy governor elected President, so we want to break away and form our own "alternative universe" wild west government.

President Obama may have to command the nations second civil war. I and my family will fight for the Union. May have to take out some kin somewhere down there in the South, but what we have as a united nation is much greater than any one individual. Of course Libertarians would disagree with that, but they will have to go down too for preservation of Union. United we stand, divided we fall.

No. 47 states have not submitted petitions. Groups of people of questionable sanity in 47 states have submitted petitions.

I understand that people are frustrated. BUt come on...secession from the Union, for ANY state, is like jumping out of a plane without a thought for a parachute. Considering all the issues of today, and yes they will still be there whether they secede or not, have they thought it through? Do they have a plan of any kind? Next, check your history...nowhere in the United States history has secession been granted. NOr has nullification. Come on people...use your brains. It's not gonna happen!!
