A Cincinnati news anchor has apologized for calling MSNBC host and liberal commentator Rachel Maddow an "angry young man." Huffington Post reports.
Tricia Macke, a reporter with Fox 19, posted the remark on her Facebook page last month. That prompted Herndon Graddick, president of Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), to say, "Macke owes an apology not only to viewers, but to young people in Ohio who are subjected to unfair bullying and harassment like this on a daily basis."
Macke removed the Facebook post, but gay-themed publication The Advocate, and other news organizations, published a screen grab. She later issued an apology on her employer's Facebook page, saying her previous statements "do not reflect my firm beliefs in individual and equal rights."
This isn't the first time Maddow has received an apologize over barbed comments at her. In February revealed on her MSNBC show that columnist and Fox News pundit Cal Thomas had personally apologized to her after saying that she was a good argument for contraception.
@martydotcom - Yeah, looked it up on wikipedia. Only thing I knew about her was that she was a liberal talk show host on NBC. Without watching her, I'd put her as a Sean Hannity counterpart (don't watch him either).
I'm glad she apologized. It is important for people of high visibility to recognize the messages they send to people. In this day and age of inclusiveness and understanding, she was certainly out of line. Also, I'm sure Rachel is used to it.
And, yes, the reporter knew Rachel's gender before she made the comment. She did say it as an insult.
What the anchor said sounds about right to me.Maddow has called people that she doesn't agree with (mainly republicans) a whole lot worst. She has attacked them on a personal/family level many times before.IE: Typical peace loving liberal,LOL.
@PNWest No I don't see. Congratulations on the victory by the way. Hope the fillets and champagne were good. Know that we've got that out of the way, you can't sit here and tell me that Rachel Madcow has not said far more inflammatory crap than some no name reporter/anchor or whatever title they go by. The difference is that Madcow is known nation wide for her snarky little emotional tirades. So what? she didn't get asked to go to the prom? Never even got considered to be in a beauty pageant? What? you tell me. Because I would like to understand at what point her feelings and staged idignation erase the track record of insults and lies she has spewed on national television.
@Calfkiller and your point being? it seems that all y'all seem to believe that all this makes a difference. she doesn't appear 'manly' and just because she's lesbian isn't a reason for people to cast aspersions. i mean, good lord. her sexuality isn't an area for contention, is it?
@dances-weebles the point is that if she were not a liberal no one would care. If she had said something equally offensive about anyone opposed to the left, it would either be ignored or agreed with by the libs in this country.
@dances-weebles It's nothing to the left to run around screaming racism every time someone is unwilling to agree with Obama. Or any other label that's applied to anyone that the left deems a threat. But God forbid anyone say anything derogatory about a lesbian.
I don't watch his/her show...does it really matter if someone called her a man? I would think she'd take that as compliment, as she tries so hard to look like one. Anyway, I can't get past the liberal bias she spews and facts are not in her vocabulary...MSNBC is the worst "news" show on the air, it's a joke!
I'd like to know that myself. At what point did Madcow earn special credit for her feelings? You raise a good point in that she has tried to look like a man. From the Harry Potter hair cut to the black turtle necks designed to hide her profile from the side (yes i'm talking about the ta ta's). So congrats to you Rachel, you made it. I've yet to see anyone on here explain how her feelings deserve credit, and no one is supposed to acknowledge anything she has done to hurt other people.
@Calfkiller She wants to look and act like a man and then gets mad if someone calls her one...Go figure?! She's just an attention seeking Harry Potter look alike...Darn, I knew she reminded me of someone, thanks for reminding me who it is.(:
do you realise how many women wear their hair short? i was looking just now at the shape of her face and, quite frankly, if her hair were long she'd look sort of like a cocker spaniel. she's very pretty with short hair... very feminine. now, please explain why it matters so much to you?
All part of their continuing marketing plan to pander to people who just can't get enough of this political media garbage all these news outlets spew. O'Reilly, Maddow, Limbaugh, Ed Schultz, etc. are basically nothing more than political shock jocks. Their shows don't serve to inform people but rather incite them. Stories like this are nothing more than an attempt to bolster ratings. They are entertainers first and reporters of news last.
Maybe the other three, not a big Limbaugh fan...but O'Reilly donates the proceeds of all his books ( and are all on the Best Seller List, sometimes two or three at a time), also, he donates a lot to the Wounded Warrior Project and encourages others do so too. I donate monthly to it , it's a great cause, and the least I can do for those who lost limbs , vision, and were badly deformed, they truly are heroes!
Who cares. Did one of the 15 people who actually watch that channel get offended? What's the address of the nursing home those viewers are at. I'll go and change the channel for them. Send over Anderson Cooper, they can have a sleep over and talk about how bad gays are treated in this country compared to other parts of the world. If madcow can be big, bad and tough and say what she wants, then she should stand up like a "man" and take it right back. If she can't do that, then maybe she should consider a new career. Maybe porn!!
Actually, LOTS of people watch FOX19 nationwide...that's the home of Ben Swann. In fact, Tricia is the hot 40-ish blonde that introduces the "Ben Swann Reality Check". Polidix sure as 5hit doesn't want you to know this, but WXIX is NOT owned by FOX/NewsCorp...it's an independent affiliate owned by Raycom. The story SOUNDS better from their perspective if you were to assume that WXIX is FOX-owned.
@GetAwake Correct. My comment on the "15 viewers" was directed towards MSNBC. I reread my post and can see where it wasn't clear on that point, and yes politix clearly doesn't want a lot of truths to be known on most of their "journalistic" stories.
I'm still waiting for the Advocate magazine to apologize for their many year promotion and exposure of NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) which advocates legalizing sex with children as young as 4 years old.
Yes, an apology was called for and a bottle of fine wine should follow. That being said, Rachel Maddow has a way of flapping that is very annoying to me. She sounds as though she has uncovered the most astonishing news, and all it mostly turns out to be only news, nothing special. And I think to myself-- "there she go's again, flapping in the breeze." However, she works at the perfect tv station for that sort of thing.
Yeah, she should apologize...to all the men in the world.......I'm insulted because I refuse to be lumped in with any group that includes Maddow, except that we are both human.......And we both like women........
I did hear from a very reliable source..MSNBC, that she's going to play the part of Harry in the next movie, It's titled "Harry Potter and the Benghazi Cover-up", and then another one to follow "Harry Potter Returns- Wearing General Petreaus's Lost Shirt". Why does that man have such a hard name to spell?! lol
@GetAwake LOL...I had to google his picture, I didn't know who he was...that was before my time!!!(: I did remember him from Hollywood Squares. The black/blue glasses just set off the look perfectly.. Speaking of Hollywood Squares, did you know Jonathan Winters is still alive?... I thought he died years ago..But, yeah, it's amazing what Botox can do !
@mimi57 I had no idea Mork's son was still living...but seriously: WTF is the big deal here? They're on FB comparing this remark to anti-semitism. Really? Go look at Maddow's HS yearbook photo. She has put a lot of work into looking dudely, and sure- the "Where's Waldo"-look doesn't take a heckuva-lot of effort, but COME ON. It's like someone wearing a dildo for a hat and then getting offended when you call them a d**khead.
