, "Which do you choose, the hard or soft option?" Well, one Montana lawmaker selects the former, thank you very much.
Montana state Senator Jerry O'Neil is requesting of his legislature that he receive his salary in gold, in the belief that the US dollar is an increasingly worthless piece of paper. Besides, he (and his constituents, who've backed him on classically conservative principles) says, it's required by the Constitution.
"I believe that if you take a look at the Constitution, that's what it says," he
told Politico. "I think we've gotten a tremendously long way from it." O'Neil added these words of warning: "If we don't start paying that debt down, we're going to lose the country."
The lawmaker has yet to hear back from his peers in the City of Helena, but assuming his wish is granted, it'd hardly be any huge burden. O'Neil only collects about $7,000 annually in his role as public servant.
