British pop duo The Pet Shop Boys once asked, "Which do you choose, the hard or soft option?" Well, one Montana lawmaker selects the former, thank you very much.
Montana state Senator Jerry O'Neil is requesting of his legislature that he receive his salary in gold, in the belief that the US dollar is an increasingly worthless piece of paper. Besides, he (and his constituents, who've backed him on classically conservative principles) says, it's required by the Constitution.
"I believe that if you take a look at the Constitution, that's what it says," he toldPolitico. "I think we've gotten a tremendously long way from it." O'Neil added these words of warning: "If we don't start paying that debt down, we're going to lose the country."
The lawmaker has yet to hear back from his peers in the City of Helena, but assuming his wish is granted, it'd hardly be any huge burden. O'Neil only collects about $7,000 annually in his role as public servant.
As usual, let a liberal talk long enough and you will see how dumb they are! With that said, the gentleman is referring to, and making a statement about the difference between a fiat currency vs backed "gold standard" currency "Gold Standard" you can't print what you don't have! "Fiat" well, basically print all you want, but "true value" goes down.(i.e. basically a hidden tax if you will).
The value of the dollar is going down. It's called inflation. The gold speculators believe the value of the dollar will be going down a lot more. Simple concept, if the value of something you own is falling, you dump it for something thats going up.
@MongoAPillager what makes you believe that the 'prez' has anything to do with the price of gold... or even the paper dollar? the gold price is set on the speculative market... what people will pay. the dollar is no longer based upon the value of gold, and therefore the price of gold has nothing to do with the dollar value. the dollar is based on 'faith'.
to me him saying the american dollar is worthless is like saying a man getting paid with the american dollar is worthless.i dont blame the man for wanting to get paid in gold because in a few months that 7000.00 worth of gold will be worth more but to say the american dollar is worthless is like saying americas worthless
we have a fiat currency system ala the federal reserve, which is unconstitutional, immoral, and designed to suck the life blood out of this country,.weebles is right about 1 thing, the only thing backing fed notes is faith.so as the "american" dollar as it now stands it is worthless
@MongoAPillager the american dollar aint what it used to be but many people over seas would rsther get paid with the american dollar or the euro from what i heard on the news the euro is worth just a little more than the dollar but not much
$7K to be a Montana state senator? More senators in more states should take that salary. Too many of these guys collect huge salaries and benefits and hardly deserve it. Kudos to Jerry O'Neil for being a strong patriotic constitutional conservative. May God rain blessings down upon you.
