'Impeach Obama' Petition Tops 35,000 Signatures

One of the most popular petitions on the White House website calls for President Obama's impeachment.

Impeachment fever is nothing new: in early 2010, 39% of self-identified Republicans favored Obama's impeachment, according to a Daily Kos poll.

According to the constitution, the president can be impeached for bribery, treason or "high crimes and misdemeanors." But those specific charges aren't mentioned in the WhiteHouse.gov petition, in which the main grounds for impeachment seem to be that Obama has given the constitution the shaft in various ways.

For instance, the petition says, Obama "proclaimed war in Libya without getting congress approval first. Article I, Section 8 - Only congress can approve to start war." Other affronts to the constitution, per the petition, include Obamacare, appointing "czars" without Senate approval, and trying to change the constitution in unspecified ways.

At nearly 35,000 signatures the petition has more than met the 25,000 threshold, meaning we will see a response from the White House.

As an independent I look at it much differently.

"Out of 122 million voters, a little fewer than 61 million (or 50.6%) voted for Obama while about 58 million (47.8% did so for Romney)."

The remaining 3 million voters were largely independent voting to oust Obama but favoring a 3rd party candidate.

That means that just half plus .6% of voters cast ballots for Obama.

Just barely over half.

That's hardly the "American people speaking loud and clear."

I really do not like Obama but I agree that he will not be impeached. At least not for any of the stated reasons. Clinton however lied to congress under oath which is a felony and impeachable, his only punishment was to lose his law license. As if a former president is going to go back to practicing law after leaving office. Anyone but him would have served jail time for that offense. Thing of the trials Roger Clemens went through for being suspected of the same offense.
I think if Obama is impeached it will be for some coverup he orchestrated or approved such as Benghazi that Mexican gun selling ordeal.

Long enough to fulfill the Republican party's agenda, make the rich even richer and send our economy into a tailspin that was blamed on Obama even before he took office. Now successful efforts that he and the government have made to reverse the downward spiral are ignored in order to perpetuate that lie.

@Dan_Tien Not taking "sides" Dan, but many seem to have forgotten that Obama was in the Senate during the last two years of the Bush Presidency. Remember those two years, when the House, and Senate were BOTH controlled by Democrats!
Obama had a hand in what he inherited when he became President.

For instance, obama didn't declare war; he lent troops and resources to a UN initiative, which does not require congressional approval. Obamacare has already been declared constitutional. Nothing he has done fits the criteria for impeachment in any way.
