There won't likely be any laws named after David Curson. He won't come close to qualifying for a federal pension. But Curson will get to be called "congressman" for the rest of his life.
The Michigan Democrat was sworn-in last week to complete the remainder of former Rep. Thad McCotter's (R-MI) term - but he'll only be there until the end of the year, the AP reports.
The burly, bearded ex-Marine and United Autoworkers union representative "was one of four members of the House sworn in this past week to fill a partial term, but he's the only one who didn't win a full, two-year term to go with the temporary gig. In January, he'll drive his truck home and be replaced by Republican Rep.-elect Kerry Bentivolio, whom Curson beat out for the partial term."
"Curson did not run for a full term, only opting to run in the special election after other Democrats took a pass. The seat was left vacant when Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, a Republican, quit Congress during the summer after he failed to qualify for the ballot because of questions about petition signatures."
I'd hold a press conference everyday and expose the crookedness of my "fellow" colleagues. Call each one out by name and say what they are doing to screw the American public. Can you imagine that, "stretch" Pelosi would have a stroke! I don't know if I could get through all the libs behavior before the six weeks were up, but I'd give it a try.
@Fitz Lol, a plan to tax based on consumption... in a consumption driven economy. You do realize what this does, right? Or are you another person who simply likes the name w/out looking at what the policy will do economically?
@AceLuby I believe we have had this discussion before. I have you marked down as being strongly against. In my opinion the good far outweighs the bad. I also think that it would help take some control away from Washington DC and return it to the people.
Members of congress can go to the Senate Bank and write a 5,000.00 hot check every day of the week except Sunday and no one ever says a word about it. That's 30,000.00 a week in FREE money. Care to guess what I would do for six weeks?
@Penn1699 Few years ago they did a study of which party abused the hot check policy at the Senate bank the worst. 201 Republicans 197 Democrats. And despite being exposed they ignored the outcry and continue this to this day. That's criminal in any walk of life except Govt.
I spent my teen years in and around DC. I can remember walking past Congress one day and seeing some legislator standing on the steps surrounded by news guys. He was spouting off about something or other. I guess I would like to do that once, stand on the steps of Congress surrounded by news guys and tell them what I thought of the fools I was working with. Yeah do that and maybe take a dump in one of their exclusive no public allowed bathrooms.
A more interesting question would be, what do you say about a quitter? "The seat was left vacant when Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, a Republican, quit Congress during the summer after he failed to qualify for the ballot because of questions about petition signatures." That's taking whining to a whole new level.
Does a six week term qualify me for full pension and a lifetime of the top-notch medical benefits that congress has voted for themselves? Nice work if you can get it. I would run for office, except that I don't have money, and I inhaled.(Still do now and then.)
Actually, considering what will be decided in the next six weeks his vote could prove quiet important, if he combines that with the idea of holding a press conference everyday for the next six weeks his term in office could be quiet memorable...
Become a crook. Sell my asx to every and I mean everyone. All lobbyists charged a mint for me to put forward anything they wanted. Guns to rebel dictators NO PROBLEM AS LONG AS MY SWISS BANK ACCOUNT WAS FILLED WITH LOADS OF CASH. THE AMERICAN WAY/DREAM.
well it is hard to say what anyone could do, being appointed as super-lame duck.
even though i think it is wrong, to appoint a democrat to replace the departing republican. which shows that the president, does not even care who the voters elected. and has no respect, at all for the voters. and should not help his, bi-partisan chances in congress.
