After splashing onto the public stage in 2008 as John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin kept a fairly low-profile in 2012. But Republicans should seriously the former Alaska governor as their 2016 presidential nominee, conservative writer Charlotte Allen argues in The Los Angeles Times.

Palin would be an effective antidote to Mitt Romney's campaign, which got a million fewer votes than the 2008 McCain-Palin ticket. Palin would talk more like a normal voter would. Or, in a less charitable view, dumb it down.

    I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, since the Left doesn't understand economics and has no interest in comprehending it, they dumb down everything to skin color, genitalia, and handouts. It's hard to argue with stupid.

    You're being a smarty pants, but Sarah is definitely smarter than anyone in the Democratic coalition of thieves. She has more patriotism in her pinky finger than obama has in his whole family tree. We could use someone with Palin's fire in the belly and mama grizzly instincts. Our country could use her staunchly uncompromising conservative politics. God please bless our nation, as the people foolishly let the liberals run it.

God please bless our country and help those poor deluded souls on the right to become wiser and accept the wisdom of those on the left.

    @Neo_NtheMatrix But you called me a smarty pants! Granted that's not the worst I have been called but still.... I never claimed that I was a fan of Ms Palin. I only said that she was one of the smartest in the GOP and that she would be a great candidate. Aren't we in complete agreement on this issue?

    @PNWest-- It's so nice to have a Lefty on here who isn't afraid of being called a Lefty, liberal etc. Most of you are so skittish of being called what you are. What's even better is that you fit into the stereotype of a liberal as a hypocritical divider who divides people up and assigns beliefs according to skin color, genitalia and class while simultaneously ostracizing any members of those groups that stray fro the flock. Governor Palin is a perfect example...

    I don't know. I wanted to vote for her this year. I thought she had the fire in the belly and the right politics to win it. Instead she strung us faithful supporters along and then decided not to run. I'm not sure I'd support her in 2016 if she ran. This was a pivotal year in order to save our nation and we couldn't count on Palin to help us out. Truth be told, we might not even be a sovereign nation in 2016.

    @Dan_Tien - My oldest son is still mad at Palin for not throwing her hat in the ring. He thinks she would have made a great president. Instead we ended up with four more years of speeding off the financial cliff.

    Oh, come on, she had no intention of running. She just wanted to stay in the spotlight. Why would you vote for her? She quit her job as governor of a state that has more ice flows than people because people were saying mean things about her. How could she handle being President of the US? Seriously, I don't see how anybody could vote for her. Sure, she's pretty. Why not just vote for P!nk then? At least P!nk could deal with the pressure.

    She may be ready for "Ellen" or "Kelly and Michael" and she could probably take on Katie Couric (since she seems to have taken up newspaper reading according to this photo), but she would be so much more entertaining on Meet the Press or Face the Nation. I hope the GOP does go qith Palin in 2016, it would almost ensure another four years of progressive government.

    I'm not so confident you guys could beat her. Romney didn't lose because he was too conservative, he lost because he wasn't conservative enough. Palin is conservative enough plus she has the fire in the belly to fight for what this country is hungering for. America's children are hungry for true liberty and freedom. obama is not the one to help us achieve success in this country.

    I think that Ms Palin should avoid people like Katie Couric. If she sticks to Fox News she'll do better. I'm pretty sure that Meet the Press or Face the Nation isn't likely to happen. The important thing is that she runs and wins the GOP nomination. The GOP doesn't need someone like Chris Christie as their nominee. They need Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Herman Cain or Rick Santorum.

    In 2016, the American patritism will decide the leader of the United States. John McCain and Sarah Palin should have been elected for the office of President and Vice President but the government dependency have outnumbered middle class, hard-working fellow Americans.

    We can fix that by not allowing anyone who doesn't pay federal income taxes from voting in federal elections. That would cut down drastically all the those tax-and-spend liberals and those who think it's okay to live off of government dependency. We have to do something before all that is left is a handful of workers being outnumbered by a ton of leeches.

    Sort of an intriguing idea, considering many folks who don't pay federal income tax are retirees, and the Cayman Islands wealthy folks, most of whom skew toward the GOP.

    Other than that delightful prospect, your idea is unconstitutional on its face since it is tantamount to a poll tax. You know, that fee to vote thing the 24th amendment forbids.

    The middle class is shrinking and the poor class is growing, that is true, but how is govt responsible for that? Does govt control what it pays its employees? Did govt force companies to offshore jobs? Are we simply supposed to ignore that the 'govt dependency' group has grown because of the recession that started in 2007?

    @DARSB - It's not a poll tax. I would think any patriotic person would want to contribute to the country that they live in. Now, if they think paying taxes is bad then they could join the rest of us and vote for lower taxes. I stand by my statement that anyone who does not pay federal income taxes should not be allowed to vote in federal elections. They can vote all they want in state and local elections.

    If he thinks that Sarah Palin is the Republican Party's best hope, then this conservative writer has already given up the election, as well as given up on the intelligence of conservative voters. Leadership of the Republican Party has been dumbed down too far already. Leave the Barbie and Ken dolls for "American Idol" and give us someone smart enough to do what is right for the country, rather than do the country for the right.

    I think her family doesn't want to live through the media savagry that would accompany a Palin candidacy. The media is so biased that whoever the Republican candidate is will be utterly destroyed while the Dem. candidate will be hailed as yet another messiah and saint. Meanwhile we will hear yet again that Palin is stupid when she has the exact same college degree as Chris Matthews. Talk about hypocrisy. We will be told yet again that it was Palin who made a comment actually made by Tina Fey. Poor Bristol will be hounded and ridiculed to the ends of the earth. The list of dirty tricks and hurtful lies is endless. I wouldn't run either.

    What bunk. Poll after poll demonstrated the economy as the #1 concern of voters, and the election showed convincingly that the Romney campaign's refusal to describe specifics of their economic plan was damaging.

    But Sarah Palin? Seriously? This is the woman who's already been defeated by a Democratic ticket, and who then went on to express her commitment to promises made to her constituents by resigning her governorship halfway through. Her political career is done, and, to judge by the election year airtime she received from her current employer, Fox, her media career is in the dumps, too.

    Slow news week, huh?

    I new the second I saw her walk out on stage at her announcement as VP the race was over. If by even a snowballs chance in hell she would get the nomination in 16, the Republicans would be guaranteed another defeat. Although if she was, it would be the best thing that could happen to a third party candidate.

    According to what I read she's fallen out of favor at Faux and relegated to second string appearances and most likely will not have her contract renewed. I suspect this is more about the million dollar a year contract and less about actually running.

    All anyone needs to do to win is to promise free stuff, paid for by 'the rich,' and you'll get in. Fiscal prudence? Overrated. Statesmanship? Forget it. Experience? Never mind! Where's my ObumblePhone?

    Face it, Palin is losing her looks, and her 15 min are just about up. Even if I agreed with her, I'd never vote for her because she quit her job as governor. That's a leader? What if she were President and we had a crisis? Would she quit and run away?
