The news on the small business front is decidedly mixed, to say the least. While some company heads decry the effect of Obamacare on their workers (and some take counter-Obamacare action,
laying off workers), others appear to be celebrating good times. At least compared to
last year 'round Christmas time.
Tiffany Hsu at the
LA Times informs us that in a survey of 501 bosses in charge of less than 100 staff, 35% were planning on passing out employee bonuses this year, an increase of 6% over 2011. Additionally, 40% planned on throwing a holiday party, an increase of 5% over last year's relatively austere office vibe.
But while employee retention would seem to be in vogue in 2012, customer satisfaction is less of a priority. Far fewer small businesses this year will be offering discounts, deals and other attractive (to customers) methods of generating sales, Hsu notes.
