15 min ST_Louie_Sue v Yes, they should I just voted yes for the sake of being able to comment. They don't make all that much from taxpayers considering salaries of some DC employers. I will say that about 52% of them are overpaid. http://www.senate.gov/CRSReports/crs-publish.cfm?pid=%270E%2C*PL[%3D%23P%20%20%0A Compensation of Members of Congress and Related Benefits Compensation The most recent pay adjustment for Members of Congress was in January 2009. 1 Since then, the compensation for most Senators, Representatives, Delegates, and the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico has been $174,000. 2 The only exceptions include the Speaker of the House ($223,500) and the President pro tempore of the Senate ... u 5 hr cpier14 v Yes, they should Yes they should and they should also have to pass drug tests wonder how fast those halls would be emptied if that were done ? Post
Thu FreelancerFl v Yes, they should What has congress done in the past 30 years that helps the people? Go ahead, I'll wait here for an answer. Post
May 18 tomtheterrible v Yes, they should For what they accomplish they need to take a big cut in all benefits, perks, and salaries. These guys forget that we pulled the levers, once they get to Washington, and do absolutely nothing for their public back home and they dare sit in congress and address each other as "Honorable" or Esteemed" The outhouse smelled better than any of these farces. Post
May 13 mwr v Yes, they should Pay cut, end their special medical, no free postage, use of government aircraft, no retirement, and term limits! Post

May 8 BEKennedy v Yes, they should Because they are not doing an efficient job for the American ppl. Their annual budgets for entertainment & other unreasonable spenditures should be offset as well. We, the tax payers, shouldn't have to foot the bills of those who do not earn their keep nor show the least amount of gratitude for our efforts in making them distinguished & powerful. We deserve better & until then, our Government deserves nothing more than the keep for tyranny. Post
u May 5 fraps v Yes, they should They should have their salary cut significantly to the level of the average citizens income. They should get the same benefits that an average employed citizen gets. There should be no perks whatsoever. They can pay for their own housing, travel, food, etc. They should also be limited to one term in any particular office and not be allowed to serve in a consecutive term at the same level of government. Ends almost all lobbying, professional politicians, pork, etc. Post
May 4 ZombieMedic v Yes, they should They make millions from all the scams they do on the side and under the table, so yeah, cut their pay, or better yet, cut the amount of time they are in session! Post
May 3 rickv2 v Yes, they should They should earn the average salary of the people they represent this way if there is any pain to feel they will feel it. Cut staff 10%, abide by the same laws they impose on the rest of us, teleconference instead of travel and no pension, it's a temp job. Get a 401K.. Post
u May 3 Saving_USA v Yes, they should When 95% of your bosses think you need a pay cut, you're doing something wrong. Post
May 3 Skid-roader v Yes, they should To write this because of an Arkansas Congressman Rick Crawford that remains in office today, i blame him and only him in my own opinion of me losing about $20,000.00 last year. I ask him to help me get my socail security after getting my finger's cut-off in 2010. I had paid taxes for 33 years or about as a brick mason, building Arkansas schools, colleges and hospital, along with many homes. And well i never had before begged for help and hand-out's as a bum does. He never did but one thing for me, until i told him what i thought of him, and then and only then; did i get banned from the socail security office for three years. On top of this insult of no help from Mr. Cr... Post
May 2 Prime_Meridian v Yes, they should Hell, considering how little they do, their jobs should be re-classified "Part Time" and their pay lowered accordingly and all medical and fringe benefits eliminated all together. These guys have access to insider training information and I can't think of a single one retiring from Congress who didn't enrich him or herself as a result of their so-called "service". Post
May 1 Goose v Yes, they should They should get NO salary without a budget. If the budget isn't balanced they should get minimum wage - with no overtime pay allowed. Post
Apr 29 Fallstaff v Yes, they should Absolutely they should take a salary cut. Start with a 50% cut and also make them poay social security and join Obamacare like the rest of us. And STOP the full pay retirement. They should get 30% of pay in retirement and only after 20 years in office. Post
u Apr 29 MalloryGrace v Yes, they should They should live like the normal Americans they supposedly represent, and abide by the laws of the land with no exemptions! They're not "royalty", although, they would beg to differ. Post
u Apr 27 BossTweed v No, they shouldn't Not unless they Raise Taxes again without doing anything meaningful to Cut the Massive Debt. If the don't rather than reduce salaries they should just be thrown out of Office at election time. Post
Nov '12 MarkJM v Yes, they should Not only salary cuts, but they should cut the rest of their perks as well. B1 r2 replies e47 endorsed Post
Nov '12 LGRepublican v Yes, they should Not only should they take a pay cut, but they should give up their healthcare coverage and go into the exchanges" like they expect many of their fellow citizens to do. Let old Harry and Nancy wait in line with the Hoi polloi and see how fast Obamacare gets repealed.... B2 e12 endorsed Post
Nov '12 stepped_in_it v Yes, they should That question has to be asked? Job performance equals reward (in my world)! So, with that thought, congress needs to "cut a check" to the American public. Ok, Bozo's, make that check out to "Joe American".........please B2 e8 endorsed Post
Nov '12 methinks v Yes, they should Salary cuts. No pension. Term limits. No lifetime healthcare...especially since they exempted themselves from Obamacare! B3 e3 endorsed Post
u Nov '12 Anne v Yes, they should Yes they should. They live off us while we struggle and they get nothing done when they actually show up! Its a disgrace how they take advantage of the people of his country. They should drive their own cars and have to pay for their own insurance! And stop taking their friends and family on trips at our expense. Look at MO she has her mother living in the WH free! Not to mention her own vacays with tons of people to make her look civilized! Its an outrage! B2 r1 reply e4 endorsed Post
Nov '12 Thunderchicken v No, they shouldn't I have to wonder if the people commenting on the even know what the congressional salary is? ($175,000.00) Which seems reasonable to me. What we need to do is hold them responsible for the pathetic way in which the country works. B1 r8 replies e4 endorsed Post
Nov '12 PoliticalSpice v Yes, they should Yes, they also should be denied pensions, and should have to get health insurance the same way as others. Congress in essence has national health care, they do not pay for medical services. I beleive everyone should enjoy this right. Perhaps if congress lost it they would think about what the rest have to go through and create national health care or a single payer, or govt option type system. Onsmacare, though better then nothing, just doesn't do it for me... B1 e2 endorsed Post
Nov '12 Denizen_Kate v Yes, they should It would help if I knew how much they were paid, however all House and Senate members should live with the same health care and retirement benefits as the rest of us. Maybe then they would work FOR US. B3 Post
u Nov '12 Polusalo v Yes, they should I think this is something that damn near the entire country agrees on. B1 e1 endorsed Post
