Net Users Rain Criticism on Beck's 'Obama in Pee Pee'

The pundit says the piece was meant to call out liberal hypocrisy on offensive art

An Obama-themed art piece that may or may not have been a stunt has been met with another one that most definitely is. Who's the stunt man? Pop conservative Glenn Beck, but of course.

Beck's outlet The Blaze reports on the firestorm of reaction his "Obama in Pee Pee" has gathered on Twitter and across the blogosphere. Beck's weirdo art - the point of which was to both highlight supposed left-wing hypocrisy on free speech and raise money for charity - was yanked from eBay (where it'd thus far raised over 11k) because it was said to contain urine, to which Beck and co. replied that the liquid is actually beer.

One Twitter user called "Obama in Pee Pee" a "disgusting and disrespectful" jab at the president, failing to see any humor in Beck's taking the piss (as the Brits say). Another threatened to slap Beck if they ever ran into him in person.

Beck's camp says the jar of OPP is revealing the hypocrisy of "those who would condemn Beck over his Obama-centric art, yet support (or remain silent) when artwork disparaging Christ is created," referring to artist Michael D'Antuono's "Truth" painting which depicted the President as a Christ-like figure.

More likely, of course, is the theory that D'Antuono is being given less attention because he's not famous. Beck is.

@Jet_Silverman When a guy paints Obama as if he were Christ, it's labeled by the left as satirical art. When Obama is in a jar of pee, it's hate. However, when Bush is painted as a monkey, the same people calling Obama in Pee hateful were calling the painting of Bush "expression". It's common from the fringes. That's part of what makes them stick to the fringes.

I support Glen Beck's right to free speech (just as I support the right of artists to make whatever artistic statements they care to make), in part because it gives him a chance to show his true colors and further alienate himself from anyone who has a brain.
