After Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and himself on Saturday, Bob Costas gave a controversial half-time speech arguing that tougher gun control would have prevented the tragedy.
Costas quoted an op-ed by fellow sports commentator Jason Whitlock, who stated that "if [Belcher] didn't possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."
The speech caused outcry on Twitter from some conservatives:
Todd Kincannon: Yes, Bob Costas, guns are the problem. Nicole Brown Simpson would be alive today if OJ hadn't shot her with that knife.
Michelle Malkin: Gun rights supporters to Costas: What about Casper, Wyo., bow-and-arrow killings? http://twitchy.com/2012/12/02/gun-rights-supporters-to-costas-what-about-casper-wyo-bow-and-arrow-killings/
Brit Hume: Bob Costas quotes KC sportswriter to make gun control case re: Jovan Belcher murder/suicide. Cites all known gun control cliches.
