Republicans have a crush on Democratic Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo. This according to a poll taken shortly after Hurricane Sandy slammed the state, which revealed not only a bump in love for the governor following the storm, but a surprising amount of goodwill from folks in the party opposite his own even despite the bad weather.
Politico reports that Cuomo's favorability rating among rank and file GOP is a strong 66% in the Empire State, and his official approval rating 47%, a showing that, while short of a majority, is strong enough to be noticed in an age of lockstep polarization.
The only catch for the governor: both members of his own team and Republicans in his state would prefer he
not make a bid for the Oval Office in the future, a near smack in the face for most politicos, considering that 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is almost always the ultimate destination.
"A plurality of Democrats and a slight majority among Republicans prefer that he not run for president," informs
Politico.
