Pollster: Republicans Have 'Run Out of White Voters'

Republicans had better dramatically improve their standing with Latino voters or they risk becoming a "regional party with few national prospects," a GOP pollster warns.

"Republicans have run out of persuadable white voters," wrote Resurgent Republic pollster Whit Ayres along with conservative Hispanic Leadership Network's Jennifer Korn in a memo detailing their latest poll, Talking Points Memo reports.

The poll results: Latino voters said Republicans did not respect their community's values and concerns. The attitude prevailed by a 51-44 margin in Florida, 54-40 in New Mexico, 59-35 in Nevada, and 63-30 in Colorado, TPM reports.

The 2012 election results served as a wakeup call to the GOP about the need to win over Latino voters. The GOP can improve its standing with Latino voters through immigration reform, recruiting more Hispanic candidates, and launching an extensive outreach campaign, the article said.

    According to this article it's already endded for repubs. As a white voter I can attest repubs have lost the ability to get my vote! Voters have short memories, you may be able to get some back. Rubio is trying to help, but my hope is that the antics of the Arizona llaw, and its similar laws adopted in some other states, will cause many to forever forgo the repubs as an option. Long term I hope repub become a regional party so that another party, hopefully further left of Dems becomes viable and forces them to compete for left voters, instead of the current situation where to many dems move policy to the right to accomodate repubs.

    Did they leave Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, etc... so they could make their new home just like their last? Ask the Cubans in Florida about how effective socialist policies are at creating wealth.

    @DerivePI You simplify the economic situation in Cuba too much. Cuba is a small country with limited resources. The majority of the population lived in poverty long before the Communist revolution that promised better times, but gave them a totalitarian dictatorship. The country has also been the target of an embargo by their wealthiest neighbor for decades, which has also contributed to their poor economy.

    Looking at your picture, I am assuming you are white. I can assure you, you're will start to suck immensely should white people mass defect from the GOP and stay home and not bother voting anymore. I know I am done voting for either party after this. I am already looking down the road 10 to 20 years and understand the ramifications of being a disenfranchised minority. You should be too. Just because you agree with the socialists/democrats doesn't mean they let you into the meetings.

    @Sharpshooter - The question was not about what you believe Democrats doing, it was what I thought Republicans should do to win Latino support. Because the GOP seems to have been completely emasculated and is now just a stuttering and floundering caricature of itself, any hope they might lure Latinos is at best 3 to 1 against I figure. The sure bet would be to lose the GOP and join a party that already counts them as a solid block of voters. Of course if you are like me, I could not care less who has Latino support, Black support, white support, women or gay support. I support the side that offers the least chance of screwing us more than we have already been screwed to this point. The Democrats are slightly better in my mind regarding this. The GOP has only it's own wacked agenda in mind at the moment. Screw the country.

    @RobertJHarsh - disenfranchised minority? I already am. I am a married man who has been married for over 30 years. Not too many marriages now days last that long.

    But more to your point - I do not care whether my race is the majority, the minority, or anything in between. Race is such a stupid issue. I refuse to play.

    @mtkopf I don't recall saying it would be the GOP. Many of them are just turning into Re-democrats anyway. They're politicians, my expectations are low when it comes to any of them.

    The difference doesn't seem that hugh when the "illegal" immigrants are their family members, friends, loved ones. When romney said self deportation many heard, he wants grandma to go back tomexico to live and die alone, without us, her family who she has loved, raised, cared for.

    @PoliticalSpice ...then I guess they didn't understand the concept. Put it back on the employers to verify immigration status...make life really difficult for those employing illegals. So unless Grandma is looking for a job, I don't think she'd be a priority for deportation.

I'm an Independent, but I'll defend the Republicans on this issue...what is it you don't understand about ILLEGALS costing us billions of dollars a year, murdering hundreds of citizens every year and committing other horrendous crimes, taking jobs, in coordination with employers, away from American citizens. Why do you think this is right?

    @ACTSmom i really need to do this on a computer instead of iphone, that way i could just cut and paste answers. First, start with what we share in conmon, I too am an independent, and often find myself having to defend dems on their issues. Second, I don't think it is right for anyone, "legal" or "illegal" to mutder hundreds of people, citizens or non-citizens, or commit other horrendous crimes. I don't know where you saw that in any of my replies snd suggest you have your eyes checked.

    the article should read the country is running out of people that intend to pay the bills.. and the obvious question is how will the Democrat Party control the Blacks , the Latinos the "disabled "(ssi) the illegals and any and all of their other sub groups who are currently receiving gifts from the taxpayer when does gifts inevitably run out . because then what you will see is violence just like we saw from the unions only on a grander national scale. so whoever is writing these articles should get off the " I hate white people "trip.. and start asking serious questions

    @Malitia_Man Are you really that naive? They're beta testing a service. One presumes they will be either charging for participate or selling advertising or both once they know what their traffic numbers are on a steady basis.*Of course* they're going to go for the drama. How often would you visit if the discussion topics were "Pumpkin Pie -- Is Ice Cream or Whipped Cream Best." I give them kudos for actually moderating the place which is more than many newspapers manage to do.

    I don't know bc I'm not a Latino voter. I'm only qualified to tell them how to attract THIS 40 something white male voter back to Republican party:
    1.) get rid of the extreme ultraconservative tea bag wacko nut jobs.
    2.)Stop telling me what my morals should be. If I wanted to be preached to I'd go to church.
    3.)learn the definition of COMPROMISE and practice using it everyday.
    4.)get back to being the party of the middle class. Espouse policies that will help the middle class grow and thrive.
    I have other ideas as well like having John Boehner's face surgically altered to resemble Jack NICHOLSON's Joker character.
    Having Chris Christie follow in Corey Bookers footsteps with the food stamp diet. Let's see how much weight he loses.

    Agreed. But you just described the core of the party, which is racist, homophobic, white, old money. The GOP is about to become a minority party and only hold the richer, middle class areas while the rest of country is working class or gimmedat class. But if you think about it, even if the GOP did everything you said, the best it will do is get the LGBT crew into the party. You'll never get the majority of latinos or blacks to vote Republican. Period. Plus you take into account the white race a severe minority in 50 to 120 years, there is simply no reason for the GOP to exist. Latinos and blacks typically do not share the idea of small govt, low taxes, and pro business. Not to mention the defection of white women to the Democrats.

    If a typical American voter could be convinced to spend a week on this site reading the posts they would believe that the GOP owns the white vote based on the number of elderly white male hard right commenter. This would be a mistake. The vast majority of white voters are like any other voter. They really don't think about politics day and night since most of them are trying to pay the bills.

    Poll after poll tells us that the middle class, regardless of race or age or gender, identify the GOP as the party protecting the rich. While the hard right party line goosestepping bleat the mantra that the rich create jobs, the working class of America know that is now not the case. After nearly 12 years of the lowest tax rates for the wealthy since income tax began, we have lost more than 12 million jobs. The wealthy do not create jobs today in America. We must redefine who does. Small mom and pop businesses serve the nation of most poor countries. And so it will be with America within another few years.

    Half of white voters do not vote. They've given up. So when you say the GOP has run out of white voters that is inaccurate. They lost the white voters. They can't convince half the whites that they are worth voting for. You can throw stones all you want but most the white voting age people I know feel the Democrats are anti white. Anti straight and anti working class. They see the Democrats as a socialist party today. But they find no refuge in the GOP because after all is said and done the GOP does nothing for them either.

    While it is true that white men hold the vast majority of positions of power and wealth this means nothing to the average white guy and wife who are losing their homes, falling behind in their own accumulation of wealth. Again most white people I know have no objection to other races succeeding but see that the Dems idea of equality is to drag white people down to the level of minorities, not drag minorities up to the level previously enjoyed by the white middle class. And the GOP is carrying the banner for the destruction of the white middle class for the benefit of the rich.

    It goes even deeper than this but the bottom line is not that the GOP has run out of white people. The GOP has joined the Dems in alienating white voters to the point that half stay home believing that there is no point today in voting because no one represents their interests.

    Do what Obama did promise the moon and give nothing and then blame the republicans for them not getting what he promised if your ready to give amnesty then go for it other wise let them stay under the wing of Obama.

    Oh how apropo... While driving from one job to the other, I just passed a "tent sale" with a huge banner.... IF YOU'RE ON SSI, MEDICAID, etc.... GET YOUR FREE PHONE AND FREE SERVICE!!!! The line was around the block. This is what the GOP would have to fully promote, because we know who the ones in line voted for!

    I'm curious... Why is Politix running it's umpteenth story since the election about how the republican party is too white...

    There was a shooting in a mall in Clackamas. Why is politix suddenly silent on shootings? Politix LOVES shootings... especially the ones perpetrated by a shooter carrying an AR-15.

    There was also some political violence in Lansing. Destruction of property and assault.

    It's not about how the GOP is "too white" - it's that it's "too white male." And why is this news? Maybe because it takes stultifyingly repetitive efforts to get the message across. Remember Mr Romney didn't have a concession speech ready because he couldn't believe he could lose.

    This is the sort of divisive bullshit they used to win the election. Republicans are all rich white guys waging war on women, the 47 percent, the middle class, using racist code in their speeches and wanting to put blacks back in chains.

    The Republican Party needs to stop worrying about what the democrats think they should do or not do. Winning means finding a way to tell the story so EVERYONE can understand.

    Winning means turning the attacks back on the attackers and pressing the advantage whenever the opportunity comes up.

    Winning means using the opponents weaknesses and flaws against him.

    Letting Bozo Biden laugh and snicker his way through the VP debate was foolish, he should have been asked DIRECTLY.... "What exactly is funny about this?" Let the public see him as the buffoon he is.

    Backing off Obama when he was getting pissed during the second debate was foolish, he should have been pressed.... HARD so the public could see the truculent egotistical goof they have in the White House.

    Winning means playing hardball. The Hispanic voters don't think the Republicans understand them for the same reason as Women, Blacks and the 47%... because they were told it's so and NOBODY called the dems out on their lie.

    You can WIN fights and come out looking like a gentleman, you can't do the same when you lose.
