The state responsible for Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell gives us a another example of enlightened thought. Things really haven't progressed much in Tennessee since the Scopes Monkey Trial I guess.

@RUMORS On second thought I really should not condemn the entire state of Tennessee. So to all of you poor liberals that live there I am sorry. It isn't your fault. As to you RUMORS - congratulations on making a response to me that the moderators won't have to remove :). This may be a first.

@jessejaymes You know you are right. I got the 2 states confused! Damn - please don't deport me to either one! Tennessee has Corker and Alexander.

This right here is why Obama was re-elected. This nation went to the polls to ensure that the Bible Belt was defeated. This nation doesn't vote for Democrats. They vote against the Bible Belt.

    Hmmm.....I want:
    Children to be taught science
Real science used when making decisions that impact the country
Women to be treated as equals, not as inferior
Open minds that can honestly see all sides of an issue
Leaders that do not have 1 on 1 conversations with God
People to Stop worrying about who others are having sex with
Personal profit taken out of government decisions
respect for people who are not "just like me"
    I could go on

I thank you that are voting me up. But as I sit here at my computer and read about these tiny children being buried I cannot stop the tears. My granddaughter is in the first grade. If i use the word damn, she uses the word damn. She asked me when she was 4 why was down there below that storm drain. I told her that that was where they kept the alligators. In an excited voice she shrieked "Can we go look!?!". I have a recording studio built behind my garage. Along that concrete walkway is a sensor light hidden in two ceramic ducks. When the beam is broken the ducks quack. One day we heard the ducks quacking and looked out and there was my angel with her hands on her hips and yelling back at the ducks "AFLAC!!".

Every parent and grandparent has these kind of stories. And it's all those parents in Connecticut have left. My heart is just broken for these kids and their parents and grandparents. We as a society have to stop saying that "rap culture violence" doesn't influence kids. That video games doesn't influence kids. That violence in the movies doesn't influence kids. That our collective national culture of violence doesn't influence kids. No one thing makes a kid go off and start shooting others. Bullying plays a role. A heavy role I think. Our culture of "sports stars and cheerleaders" who are the popular people plays a role I think with these little outcasts who suddenly snap. But all these things play a cumulative role. I grew up with guns. I was always around guns. I never thought about killing my mother although we never liked each other. I never thought about going to school and killing people and I was a wild child. But I didn't grow up in the rap culture that we now have two generations of kids growing up in that teaches them you settle grievances with violence. And it's not just black kids. It's all our kids that have been exposed to this for more than 30 years now. Violent video games, violence everywhere we look. It's not the guns. you can take all the guns. It's the mentality of a nation. We have become our own worst enemies.

And our babies are paying for it.

Agreed, woodtick. I had heard this same ridiculous statement by someone I was talking to in Maryland, last week. And when I heard it---I couldn't believe my ears!...So I agree with you on this.....Its statement like this...that do turn people away from religion..

And people like me DONT wonder why this country isn't just going the way of sodam and gomorrah, we've been there done that man. This country turned it's back on GOD awhile ago, not just this previous election. Men want to sleep with men, women want to kill thier own babies, this country celebrates your "alternative" lifestyle and glorifies it, unless your lifestyle is to live by GOD's law, then your the strange one. People dont like to be reminded that what they are doing is wrong, they know it anyway, deep down, they just dont like being reminded of it.
  • !
@CATTLEPROD It makes little difference how these people try to justify this behaviour it will always be wrong to natures design and a disgrace to its intent. I do believe that you are correct when you say people don't want to be reminded of what they know is disgustingly wrong.
  • !
@marine1 No doubt, even though we need to be reminded daily it's o.k. to be gay or whatever, with the constant bomardment from hollyweird to the big 3 to schoolbooks etc. etc. etc.

@Neo_NtheMatrix Well these 5 year old kids were shot to death, and some religious nut wants to preach they deserved it because in later grades they will be taught evolution. I think that is ample reason to keep nutty religious views out of schools, and I'm no atheist..
  • !
@Realthinker Asked "What's behind this shooting that we saw on Dec. 14 in Newtown, Connecticut?" Morris asked. "Well, number one, deception: When you kicked God out of schools, you're going to be judged for that." That sounds like he was saying it was god judgement these kids should be shot, maybe he did not use the word "they deserved it" but that is the inference.

I believe if we allowed God back into schools again, these types of tragedies wouldn't happen. We have placed everything above our values and the precious little human beings that depend on us. It's time we get back to the word of God and stop chasing after purely material things.

That's an excellent argument for gun control laws. I'm glad that you have finally changed your position. The democrats are happy to have you.

Sounds like he is just giving Americans the cold hard facts, whether they are open to hearing them or not. I say amen to Pastor Morris. It's about time someone had guts enough to speak the truth.

I am okay with that - for someone that matters. This is like Politix starting a thread questioning the Presidents safety because your Aunt Lizzy used the "N" word at the dinner table.

@Denizen_Kate I would love to tell ANY parent thaT IF THEY ALLOW THE REMOVAL OF GOD, THEN AS YE SOW SO SHALL YE REAP. If you think GOD wont turn hi back on those that will not love Him and follow Him, then wooo be unto you!
  • !
@Denizen_Kate It tore myheart out when I heard it and I COULD NOT imagine if it had happened to my kids but what I want to point out is the pastor is telling the truth. Too much crap is being crammed into the kids minds today and it short circuits their little brains and look what happens then???//// Someone snaps! Put holesom teachings back in schools. Raise GOD above All things. Let our children's minds learn meaningful things and not be brainwashed into using assault weapons to kill masses.

    @Kellso
So you can say with certainty that none of the people murdered were Christians?
Don't worry us "godless" people and all the reasonable Christians will still have sympathy for you if your child is ever murdered. We will show you how to act like Jesus.

I did not know that animals other than humans regularly arm themselves and murder mass numbers of their own species. Is that written in the Apochrypha?
  • !
Do we really give a rat's ass what a small-minded pastor of an insignificant Christian church in some po-dunk town in the Bible Belt says? He's a nutbag, and a callous, insensitive nutbag at that.
  • !
Sadly many so called mainstream religious organizations are saying almost the same thing. The AFA, James Dobson, and everyone's favorite Westboro.
  • !
I would like to hear exactly what he said, did he actually say these exact words or something like" if my people who are called by my name will turn from their wicked ways I will heal their land?" And somebody took of fence to it?
What did he really say? Did he use homosexual in a sentence during the message and someone edited and spliced it to mean this?
I will wait for conformation before passing judgement
  • !
If you've ever been to a Bible belt church they say stuff like this all the time. These people are nutcases. If there is a God and there is a hell, I think they will be burning for saying these things. To bad there's neither.

    @kirbstomp1
So I can safely assume you've been to many of these churches and heard them say this? Strange an unbeliever would " waste " his time attending so many churches.
Like I asked, does anyone know what he really said ?
  • !
If you had actually read the article you are commenting on, and the links provided within it, you would have nown this is a direct quote of what he said....
  • !
@Ashstop - yea after growing up in the deep South and attending church since birth, yes I've been to alot. Them saying stupid stuff like this made me an unbeliever. So for the first 18 years of my life it wasn't a waste of my time. I still go just to observe at my home church. Just because I don't believe doesn't mean I dislike the people or the community feeling of a church. Your bigotry blinds you.
  • !
@Ashstop i was born in the south and went to baptist churches,we never even heard of gays there,i was about 13 when i moved to new england and people were talking about it,i thought it was some kid of messed up joke for a couple of years,so"that stuff"that these guys are talking about wasn,t all that prevalent, don,t let'em snow ya

Not everyone is depressed at the shootings. Apparently some Christian nuts are celebrating that a few less kids will grow up to be homosexual as the inevitable result of the curriculum.
  • !
But god created homosexuality...(according to the religious myths, anyways...) so it is actually god to blame for this. More religious violence...when will it end?
  • !
This is a perfect example of the irrationality inherent to the religious mindset. If a proposal sounds reasonable, that's proof enough for these idiots. In a way he's right however, we do school people so that they will not fall prey to this antiquated mindset.
