The man who brought you "Gangs of New York" is turning his attention to a former occupant of DC.

Politico reports that director Martin Scorsese has inked a deal with HBO to deliver a documentary on the the nation's 42nd president, aka Bill Clinton.

The movie is unlikely to be a harsh critique, since it has the go-ahead from Clinton himself, and the men behind it are all Big Dog fans. Director Scorsese considers Clinton a "transcendent figure," and HBO chief Richard Plepler has called him "one of the most compelling figures of our time." Co-producer Steve Bing is also a longtime supporter of Bill and Hillary.

As the Washington Post notes, this isn't first in HBO's foray into presidential profiles. Earlier this year the network ran an expose on Bush 41 entitled, in fact, "41." And before that, a biopic on Ronald Reagan.

Still popular, and I submit the recent election as evidence. Boob W was in hiding and as welcome alongside Republican candidates as a pig in a temple. Meanwhile Big Dog was off his leash, running wild all over the battleground states, and barking loud. For an ex-prez, he looks pretty good.
