Without a doubt, it was FDR, although other presidents were liberal, most notably Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson among others, FDR's New Deal was so sweeping that we are still benefiting from it today.

Abraham Lincoln actually wrote letters to Karl Marx, and supported workers rights. The Republican party supported the idea that working conditions under Capitalism were wage slavery. Lincoln was actually voted in because he was so against Mudslide economics, which today are referred to as "trickle-down".

This is a tough one. Though I have no idea what JFK is doing on this list... He was a tax-cutter who didn't try to play footsie with dictators. . FDR, Johnson, and Carter are all such tempting choices but I narrowed it down to Wilson and Obama before finally deciding on Obama. . If I was judging the "liberal" accomplishments of Wilson and Obama, I'd have to go with Wilson since he was able to get a few amendments enacted including the creation of the Federal Reserve and the Income Tax. . However, if I judge them based on what I think they would do/have done if there wasn't any opposition to their liberal/progressive policies... in other words, which of the two is...

The most liberal Presidents are the ones in the last 4 decade that snuck in under the conservative banner and had an (R) by their name. They changed a tax code to the detriment of the many...that's not conservative. They started at least 4-5 wars depending on your definition and decided to pursue nation-building everywhere but in our nation....that's not conservative They chiseled away at our personal liberties and freedoms to achieve their policies and aims....that's not conservative. They stand on the sideline now while those of their party swear allegiance to a certain person or class and not the constitution......that's not conservative. Our Country suffers......

Shouldn't we define "liberal" first? The definition has changed over time... But I would say that Wilson was the most liberal by the 20th century definition. But many who are considered "conservative" have done some very liberal things. And are we choosing the most politically liberal, the most fiscally liberal, or the most socially liberal? Very different things, you know... This is just one more opprtunity for media and the press to keep the partisan factions as wide as possible... United we stand, divided we fall. Let's attack each other until we are all individuals who have no need for social contract. Then tyranny will be welcomed in by those who said they fough...
