The Democratic grassroots are continuing to rage against Obama's fiscal cliff "concessions" on social security.

"I feel like I'm watching the Democratic party commit suicide," wrote One Pissed Off Liberal in Wednesday's "most-recommended" diary on the Daily Kos. "This is what Barack Obama will be remembered for – dismantling the hard won human progress of the New Deal and serving up the poor and elderly on a platinum platter."

Seeing Obama bend over backwards on social security brings on "that old sick feeling," writes Paul Krugman on his blog, The Conscience of a Liberal.

Under Obama's plan, social security would be $136 less per year for 65-year-olds, $560 less for 75-year-olds, and $984 less per year for 85-year-olds. Payments would be tied to the cost of living using the "chained CPI" method. The AARP and various veterans groups have all condemned the plan.

If Obama's deal goes through, it will mean leading Dems, including Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden, will all be breaking their pledge to voters not to touch social security.

@Fitz - I went in the website isidewith.com and took this little questionnaire and it fits the best presidential candidate you should vote for. everyone in my family took it a total of 13 people, all wanted to vote for Romney prior to taking the questionnaire. All 13 most closely agreed with Gary Johnson, and they still voted for Romney....ignorance I tell you.

@AceLuby Technically it isn't really "two party" but we have too many brainwashed masses out there that will solely vote based on the little (R) or (D) after someone's name, most of the time not even doing any research on who they vote for. I tend to vote the NRA Ticket (Not the National Rifle Association but Never Reelect Anyone).

@AceLuby the constitution sets fourth the person with modt electoral votes is prez, next highest vote count ix vp. That usually meant the two who opposed each other both got elected. The prez ran the exec branch, but as prez of senate the vp could stir up quiet a fuss in the legislative branch. The arrangement forced compromise, or secret plotting, both really, but on tough issues nothing would happen without compromise, i am not when they started running on two person tickets, but the intent pf the framers did not last long. Was discussing it on another threat with someone rlse last week. Would love more info on this...

Deeper cuts the older the person is? My Lord...how are they supposed to live if they don't have other means of income at 85 years old? What's the next step Obama and Boehner...just pass out the cyanide? Maybe we should just get rid of most in Congress and executive administration...if they pass something like this (or do it by executive order) we WILL need that 2nd amendment militia.

you're not too far off. the Socialist Party in Belgium this week put forth a bill to allow more people to get the right from the government to kill themselves... including Alzheimer's patients and minor children.
this is the party and the people and the thinking behind people like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton... behind Moa tse tung.. and the thinking of Obama's and Hillary's mentor Saul Alinsky.

Going over the "Cliff" is a far better idea than cutting SocSec. In the long run a recession would be less harmful to American. The proposed plan " _IS_ " a SocSec cut. That is unacceptable behavior. We need to be talking increase not decrease. Those who need our help are to be cut? John Boner is purposely wasting our time and money.

Let's demand all politicians take pay cuts I am a diabled veteran who has a family to support. I depend on my ssi income as well as my VA. I defended my country....so what for my dedication and loyalty will I get in return? my only means of income slashed? These pinheads we have running our country into the ground getting are six figure incomes there is absolutely no reason for them to make that much money and for elderly & the disabled left to suffer and hope to god we can pay or bills & rent. I call bullshit!!!!!!!!!!

16 trillion in debt. We have to cut on both party's pork and raise taxes too. Ideal is 18% gdp in tax and 21% spending. Now its 15% gdp tax and 25% spending. Fly's like a penguin. With my numbers the country would be in a surplus in 20 years!
