NRA Sees 8,000 New Members Per Day Since Sandy Hook Shootings

While political actors have found new confidence in calling for stricter gun control post-Sandy Hook, the market is appears to be calling for something else. Not only are gun sales up, so too are new memberships for the country's foremost gun lobby, the National Rifle Association.

FOX reports that the NRA is seeing a surge in new signups following last week's tragedy and the subsequent enthusiasm for more gun control. While new memberships are not uncommon at times of national soul searching on the issue of gun access, the current round of public interest in the group's mission apparently "dwarf past trends."

Not surprisingly, the NRA isn't exactly gloating about the news, preferring to keep a low profile. But a source with the group told FOX that it's seen an average of 8000 new members per day since last Friday.

Awr Hawkins at Breitbart states with no compunction what the NRA likely won't say at Friday's news conference: "While the media seizes on the tragedy in Connecticut to tell us that Americans have now largely turned a corner and thrown away their love for 2nd Amendment freedoms, reality tells us something completely different."

    Or that the NRA could be simply following the example of the Axelshaft/ Jarrett Junta and LYING?

    Neither is likely..... NRA membership statistics are easy to research.... I understand they didn't promise to be transparent and open....

    No error. I and my entire family joined yesterday. While doing the paperwork, the girl said they had been swamped and having to work 10 hour shifts. There was no reason for her to tell me this, she had no agenda. The only solution to gun violence is another gun.

Am I to come away thinking you think my daughter, a LIFE MEMBER and competitive shooter a bimbo or me a buffoon? Reprehensible.

    I saw that too..it's floating all over facebook....just wonder if people will actually pay attention this time and do something about instead of being content with being yet another example on that list. history does repeat it's self...i only hope the people of this great nation break that chain and stand up...our country was founded on the ideals that freedom is paramount....and is worth fighting and dying for....

    Those are the type of historical facts that make me, usually socially liberal, very much against any interference with 2nd Amendment rights. I wouldn't want to become one of these statistics. Disarming the populace is the first act of any totalitarian regime.

    No gun control in the Us and we rounded up how many asians and put them in camps..

    California did the same with mexicans once. Just grabbed people off the street and shipped them to mexico. Some of them had been here for generations, but they looked like immigrants...

    how did the guns help them?

    @woodtick57 proof positive that our govt has no problem with rounding up it's own citizens and doing away with them....all the more reason to be on guard. your comment, though it may not have been intended as such, adds weight to what we are saying. our leaders have rounded up and removed it's own citizens before, citizens who legally, had just as much right as you or i to be here. what makes you think that they would hesitate for an instant to do it again when they felt it would suit their purposes. They know, no i take that back, they THINK that if the repeal the 2nd amendment and "disarm us" they can do as they please with little to no opposition. They are wrong. if there is anything in this country it's citizens would be willing to break the law for and fight for it's freedom. our country has done it before and i believe if they try, we will do it again. They fear an uprising....they know we are on to their schemes and tactics....THAT'S why they want us on foodstamps and welfare...they think a person will not fight against a govt that decides if they eat or not. thats why they want us disarmed....because they know that we will not give up our freedom without a fight

    Before the sun set on that sad day the radicals started calling for gun control without showing true sympathy for the families or trying to understand what caused it to happen. Of course this fueled a surge in gun purchases & NRA applicants, middle America sees the need to defend their families, and to defend against the imminent knee jerk attack on their 2nd Amendment rights.

    Avenging armies of the paranoid, saving the public-at-large untold trillions of dollars in therapeutic and pharmaceutical costs by riddling the mentally unstable in hailstorms of bullets! Hundreds of "friendly fire" deaths! Lawyers drowning in their own legal fees! Funeral parlors adding third shifts (jobs creation!)! NOTHING CHANGES.

    could be that people admire the class in which the NRA held their tongue after the rampage buy that vegetarian mental case. un like a liberal Democrats who didn't even wait for the coroner to show up before they politicized it.

    I believe wholly in the second amendment. No one should have the ability to take away our right to own guns! I am very sorry about the events in Con. I have even donated money to offset the costs for the families to pay for the funerals, burials and headstones for the children lost in the massacre. I lost a 10 year old son, so I know first hand how much money it takes and that you have to come up with it very quickly! Everytime a tragedy like this happens, the first thing people start spouting is gun control. That would have not stopped this tragedy. The shooter was not a gun owner. He stole the guns from his mother who had bought them legally and proceeded to kill her with her own gun. Even if his mother had not owned guns, an evil person like this hellbent on doing this would have stole the guns from someone else.

    Awesome Statement! Ever since Obama became President, we have seen one disaster after another. History has taught us what happened with strict gun control: Adolf Hitler/Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany seized guns and the worst event in History. I love My Country USA but Fear Our Socialist Liberal Government.

    @Politicskid I'm not going to argue Fox and MSNBC with you. Both are so biased that they might as well be identified as propaganda machines for the GOP and Dems. You can say what you like my opinion is not changing. I would not call either of them news in any way shape or form. Case Closed.

    @Politicskid Lots of places. Tons of places. I read both the left and right. What I don't do is watch Fox or MSNBC (other than Morning Joe who is a moderate Republican and who I like) beyond that it's none of your business.

    @jessejaymes I do, too. But I think that if you're going to bring it up, you should be willing to share what sources of news you commonly use. The fact of the matter is is most of the media is liberal, so yes it's certainly important to have a variety of sources. Let's hear it.

    Every time there is a senseless, tragic massacre like this, people continue the pro/con rhetoric of gun control. We already have gun control laws. The major change I advocate is closing the loopholes afforded private dealers at private gun shows. They should be required to perform the same checks prior to sale as retailers selling firearms. And the background checks should be interlinked state to state and federally. If the drivers licensing agencies can interlink, so can gun dealers.
    And while we need to leave the second amendment alone, so too the first. But that doesn't stop us as a society, from making the promotion of violent entertainment socially unacceptable. Media promotes violent games, programs, movies because they $ell.
    But the 300 pound gorilla in the room is the mental health issues that affect all most ALL of these perpetrators. We have to remove the stigma associated with seeking mental health treatment. And we have to offer more practical options to family members and even close associates who recognize and try to help symptomatic behavior. How many times have family members, friends seeking help been told, "The law can't do anything until he/she actually commits a crime!"
    Yes, of course, it IS an extremely slippery slope. But as that famous cab driver once said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
    Reports indicate that Adam Lanza's mother recognized the need for and was considering the options towards a structure in Adam's life. She knew he was both troubled and intellectually gifted. But he was a legal adult, and her options were limited.
    So instead of revisiting the redundant "to control or not to control guns," issue, which eventually will fade away, once again, let's broaden our discussion a bit and deal with helping to find practical ways to deal with the potentially, criminally insane.
    After all, anyone can recognize that a mad man can find many ways to kill many people.

    Ashamed that people think they should be allowed to defend themselves? Ashamed that they'd want to be able to disable shooters so their are less fatalities?

    If I was living in a dangerous area of town, I personally would want an assault rifle.

    And if you're so ashamed to be an America, please, leave. Head to whatever country you think is better. That statement is very unpatriotic and insulting to the people who died for our freedom and great life.

    Ashamed that sickos refuse to simply defend themselves with basic firearms that are more then sufficient for self-defense. Instead they want weapons designed to kill many people at one time. If you need an assault weapon or a clip that holds more then 10 rounds you either make very poor decisions or your aim is horrible. Either you are too irresponsible to own a gun or your inability to use it makes it unsafe to the public (and your family) for you to own one.
    Ashamed that sickos like you want firearms beyond what any civilian needs so badly that you are consistently willing to sacrifice children on the alter of the NRA. Over 30 school shootings since Columbine. That's an average of right about 2 a year. But since you either put yourself (and perhaps family) in dangerous situations or can't hit the broad side of barn and need 30 round clips to "protect yourself".
    You know what's unpatriotic? 26 Americans dying everyday at the hands of your "precious".
