The Washington crowd are paid quite handsomely for relatively little work. They have aides and assistants to attend to those annoying day to day tasks. When very important matters are being discussed and broadcast on C-Span it astonishes me that so few Senators or Congressmen are actually present. I imagine they can watch the proceedings on closed circuit TV but it would be more appropriate for them to be present. The uniformity of the absenteeism from both sides of the aisle, except for those scheduled to speak suggests indifference and a complete lack of interest in their primary job.
