I'm a native Ohioan. I love the state, my husband is from Chicago and lived in
Cal. for five years. He said he wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I've never
considered Ohio a Bible Belt state , although it doesn't bother me at all if others
do...I would never stay in a state I hated , you could always move to Cal. or Fla.
Some people love it there, not for me though. Go where you'd be happy..just
remember, we take ourselves with us wherever we go.(:

Your not kidding either. Even saying the words "tolerance of others" or " what I do is none of your business" to the devout here could start a panic so great in some county's terroristic threatening and inciting a riot charges could by issued against you. Its a very dangerous place not to follow the herd.

@woodtick57 Yet, liberals say that guns are capable of murder. Is a couch not equally capable of an act? Are things just things? Which is it?
  • !
    @Jeff_Woehrle

What do liberals have to do with this? No, things are not accountable in our laws, nor can they enter into the social construct of marriage. Nor can dogs or cows or children or '67 mustangs...
  • !
@woodtick57 Liberals say that 'guns kill.' Yet, I've never seen police haul a gun into the station and ask it some questions. If a gun is capable of killing (as liberals insist), then why can't one answer a simple question?

Hence, since guns are capable of killing, a couch should be capable of entering into a contract to get 'married'(as liberals wish to define 'marriage' nowadays).

I think it's high time America gets with the liberal mindset on this... Couches have rights...and so do those who love them.

Quiet! Texas will legalize pot and stone out all the socialists! Nothing worse than stoned communists forgetting to protest and voting for communist issues!:)
  • !
@RobertJHarsh now which is it, socialists, or communists? there's a difference, you know.

hey, i've got an idea, why don't you actually study history, and civics before you say moronic things like this?
  • !
@RobertJHarsh it was hardly humourous. the next time you attempt to make a joke, maybe you should post some sort of warning first. it'll give us time to get a chuckle ready.

I hope every conservative out there had a wonderful Christmas yesterday and had the opportunity to spend time with family. Nothing can be more important that family members gathering together.

That said, they need to keep that stuff away from Michigan. Here we value family and morals. At least on the western side of the state. I can't speak for that cesspool on the eastern side of the state.
  • !
I did, thank you. You are correct, family is the most important. How would SSM affect your family at all? Wouldn't a conservative aupport this issue?
  • !
"I hope every conservative out there had a wonderful Christmas" - shame on you. I hope EVERYONE had a wonderful Christmas.
  • !
@PNWest - Everybody doesn't celebrate Christmas. That's rule #1 in your PC handbook. I just didn't want to offend anyone that didn't celebrate.
  • !
@Neo_NtheMatrix If that is the case then "I hope every conservative out there had a wonderful Christmas" implies that only conservatives celebrate. And I know you know better than that.

@woodtick57 - Some of us don't subscribe to your description of fiction. That fiction had a lot of influence on the world's greatest nation even coming into existence. Far smarter men than I have placed their faith in the Bible. It is a great book and I try to live my life by it everyday. I suggest the world would be a much better place if more people embraced the Bible and its principles instead of shunning it.
  • !
    @Neo_NtheMatrix

jFiction, as in proven to not be fact. That is the bible. We all know this...

Seems the further we get from the bible, the more moral of a nation we are. Seems all societies can make that claim. The bible is one of the worst moral guides ever printed. I have given clear, irrefurtable examples of this many times.

@woodtick57 - Getting married, taken care of a family, working hard, not asking for more than what one has earned, treating others as you would want to be treated, individual accountability, charity? These are bad morals? Who knew?

I support it, but there are still basic framework problems, like insurance benefits, social security, and other "beneficiary" areas. Problems that have no solutions and no bills at the Congress to resolve. Marriage might be legal in some states but it is technically non-binding at the Federal level.

Also, many states will never allow gay marriage without a Federal law to push it. States like Ohio, Texas, and most southern states.
  • !
@woodtick57 Not entirely. The Federal govt does not recognize same sex marriage. Therefore, married gays/lesbians CANNOT file a joint tax return, and are not entitled as beneficaries for each others social security or medicare just to start. Also, hospitals run according to their own rules in most cases (except VA) and they are not obligated to allow a spouse of a gay or lesbian into to see their partner if he or she should be hospitalized. Same goes with visits to nursing homes by spouses. Just google for horror stories of families of a gay or lesbian not allowing access to a married partner. There is no end of those.

The marriage language in the law depends on each state and I doubt all aspects have been covered, even the states where it is legal. Married gay/lesbian needs to investigate clearly what will happen before something does go wrong, and a hospitalization is needed. Lawyers should be consulted to make wills are air tight so some mystery family member doesn't show up and kick out the surviving spouse and take everything.
  • !
@woodtick57 That is not always the case. You need to do some investigating in your state and make sure. In fact, even those in states where its legal couples would still need to hire lawyers and make sure their affairs are in order, just in case. Never take anything on this site for any legal advise or even as truth. MAKE SURE ON YOUR OWN.

In my opinion the best way Is to deregulate marriage. Get government out of marriage. do away with all benefits regarding marriage. Groups of people cannot benefit from it Nor can politicians pander to them.

I feel that homosexuality is a perversion. I voted against gay marriage but it passed anyway. I will not move, the deer/elk hunting is just too good around here.
  • !
Yeah, love between two adults is a perversion, but punching a hole through a deer's torso with a shoulder cannon is just good sport. Hand-forehead.
  • !
@NormalFlora The good Lord gave us deer/elk etc. to survive. I seriously doubt he wanted us to become homosexuals. I do not consider two men or women ******* one another love.
  • !
@dlw You need to travel beyond your Dominionist survivalist enclave and actually meet gay folks. They love each other just like you love your wife. They are honest, hard working citizens and they make GREAT parents. And I'll bet you right now that many of your favorite friends and acquaintances are gay. They just don't want you to know because of your blatant bigotry.
  • !
    @dlw
I've never been more in love with another person as I am with my girlfriend/partner. I will never understand why haters care so deeply about what happens in my bedroom. And it hurts to see people hell bent on undermining my relationship and the love we have for each other. We are happy. Get over it. Move on. Leave it alone.

In my state no it's going to take awhile I live in THE most conservative state in the country sadly our many church's preach love but pratice hate so its going to take awhile for gays to be able to marry in my state but if it were on the ballet tomorrow I would vote yes bc love is not just to the opposite sex and yes people are born gay
  • !
@hwyangel Who said they were? I think you might have the wrong idea about gay people. But I really wish that you would clarify your statement.
  • !
@hwyangel gay people aren't just Horney people having casual sex everyday With random people i will respect an openly gay person b4 I respect a closet homo or any republican who lashes out at gays in public but masterbates to gay porn or child porn behind closed doors repubes are notorious for their triple and double standards for life

[Quote] " bc love is not just to the opposite sex" [Quote]

    ho·mo·sex·u·al /ˌhōməˈsekSHo oəl/
Adjective (of a person) Sexually attracted to people of one's own sex.
Noun A person who is sexually attracted to people of their own sex.

I'm personally not for federally governed love or sex either way.

Its already legal in Maryland. And I am hoping that freedom prevails in as many other states as possible this upcoming year. Adults should be free to marry whom they love, anywhere in this country... I hope it gets to that point.
  • !
It just did become legal here. God has yet to cast down Holy Fire upon us nor has He inundated us with a Great Deluge. Cats have begun living with dogs, though.
  • !
Yeah, yeah. We have a lot of front yard, U.S. flags flying in Oregon, too. It drives me nuts because 90% of the "neighborhood patriots" has no idea re: the proper display and care of the American flag. Many are tattered, torn, flown 24/7 without proper lighting.
Flying the American flag is kind of like adopting a child. You shouldn't do it unless you have the time, resources, dedication to take proper care of it.

Also, Ohio voted against gay marriage and the ban is on the Ohio Constitution. So I see that getting changed sometime in the never time frame. But I looked at the linked article and I noticed something. "Nine States and DC have Marriage Equality Now"?

That is technically not correct since the states register same-sex couples to be married, which is good, but the BENEFITS of marriage are not completely on par with hetero couples.

The LGBT needs to get to work on the benefits area or these marriages will be in name only.
  • !
The reason the benefits issue is such is not due to the states regulations on gay marriage. The states offer the legal benefits entitled to them. It is DOMA that is causing the inconsistencies with the benefits. Because of DOMA, the marriages are not federally recognized, therefore the married homosexual couples are not entitled to the federal benefits offered to their heterosexual counterparts. For instance, take filing for taxes. The homosexual couples could indeed file married in their state should it be legal, but they would have to file as single federally, which would immediately red flag them and cause them an audit. So yes, indeed we need to work on the benefits, however that's a federal issue, not state.
  • !
The best part about people standing against marriage equality is when in twenty years they have to admit their grandchildren that they were a bigot. It's like my generation asking our parents and grandparents why they were against civil rights. Homosexuals are born homosexuals so this is a no-brainer, you cannot discriminate based on someone's birth.
  • !
@theroadtohell1 I was not born homosexual, I am a heterosexual. A homosexual is born homosexual due to the conditions in the mother. The statistical analysis on this theory was known to be valid 40 years ago due to the mother's immune system causing later born children to have higher percent chance of being homosexual. The mother's immune system fights off the parasite, the parasite reacts by releasing hormones to stop the immune response. This explains why homosexual males have brains that react exactly as a heterosexual female does. I know you won't believe any of this because only the devil can make someone a dirty disgusting perverted homosexual. I only hope that if you have a big family that your 3rd born son shows interest in fashion because as a woman has more children the percent chance of having a homosexual go higher as her immune system reacts more effectively against the parasite.
  • !
@DrFunkenstein, well that's a very interesting theory dr funkenstein, parasites have names, what name does this parasite have? Moving on, i don't believe in the devil or organised religion.
You say about large family's,well i have 6 children none showing homosexual tendencies, and where do lesbians fit in with this theory?
Also I am close friends with one family 14 children all separate pregnancies, 10 boys 4 girls, no homosexuals no lesbians. But anyway get back to me with the name of the said parasite and I will research it, this is the first time I heard this particular argument
    Happy new year.
  • !
@theroadtohell1 lesbians are homosexuals. Your friend probably feels the same about homosexuals as you do, so do you think their children would leave the closet? A woman's immune system reacts to a fetus exactly as it would any other parasite. It's a waste of time explaining it to you since you are obviously a liar and lack the intelligence to understand anything. Now cry because I called a fetus a parasite and then get mad that I called you a liar when you have a name theroadtohell and claim you are not religious.

No commentary other than a question... Does anyone else here find it significant that these people have nothing better to be concerned with on a governmental level in light of the economic situation and fiscal crisis we're facing?
