The Supreme Court will rule on two major gay marriage cases in June 2013: on California's Proposition 8, and on the Defense of Marriage Act.
But LGBT activists don't want to wait that long, according to Buzzfeed. They've planned out a campaign to make gay marriage legal in six more states by June 2013:
1. Illinois. The state could see a marriage equality bill hit the legislature in January, with the support of democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. As a pre-emptive strike, the Coalition to Protect Children and Marriage released their own marriage-protection bill on Dec 18.
2. Minnesota. State legislators plan to introduce a pro-gay marriage bill in January. The governor supports it, and Minnesotan voters gave gay marriage a kind of thumbs up in Nov 2012.
3. Rhode Island. The state senate's president has promised to bring a vote on a marriage equality bill this year. Gov. Lincoln Chafee also supports gay marriage.
4. Delaware. Gov. Jack Markell backs marriage equality and expects the issue to arise in 2013.
5. Hawaii. Yet another state with a pro-gay marriage governor, Neil Abercrombie. However, in 2012 state courts upheld a gay marriage ban.
6. New Jersey. Chris Christie vetoed a gay marriage bill in 2012, and said it should be decided by popular vote. However, that's opposed by Democrats in the state legislature, who say "civil rights" shouldn't be on the ballot.
