Lisa Jackson stepping down after years of battles with Hill GOP over climate change policy

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson will step down after President Barack Obama's State of the Union address early next year. A supporter of stringent climate change legislation, Jackson often bumped up against industry, Republicans in Congress and, at times, the Obama White House, The New York Times reports.

Jackson's departure comes as many in the environmental movement are questioning the president's commitment to dealing with climate change. After his re-election, and a campaign in which global warming was barely mentioned by either candidate, President Obama said that his first priority would be jobs and the economy and that he intended only to foster a "conversation" on climate change in the coming months.

No EPA successor to Jackson was immediately named, although it is expected that Robert Perciasepe, the agency's deputy administrator, will take over at least temporarily. Jackson's creates another second-term staffing decision for President Obama. He recently nominated Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. The Defense secretary and CIA director posts are still open.

I'm not, I'm glad she's going. They need to shut the entire EPA down. It does nothing but strangle business and cause the economy to suffer. We're no more safer in this nation with the EPA or FDA or any of them, as they are corrupt and can be bribed. If these outfits don't tell the truth, what good are they then? Pink slime got past the FDA.

@Neo_NtheMatrix I was being facetious. I believe the FDA picks up where the EPA leaves off. EPA was helpful for hazardous materials response for first responders because it had the authority in states that did not have state OSHA programs. But I feel their role and responsibilities have gone way way waaaaay beyond their scope because people have to have someone to blame.

Every government agency has one goal in mind from it's creation, GROWTH, getting it's nose into every aspect of as much as they can get away from, increasing their manpower and size as well as budget, empire building. EPA, Forest service, dept of interior, etc, where one leaves off the others pick up and carry on the legal battles to bankrupt challengers.

She hasn't been in the news much. I don't think that the country has made much of an effort in this area which is understandable because of the recovering economy. On the other hand there haven't been any EPA scandals. She did her job and didn't screw up.

What about PM2.5 Air Pollution Experiments? Unethical testing on living humans isn't a scandal because of the incredibly low bar set by the Axelshaft/ Jarrett Junta.

She did oversee the agency winning some important court cases, specifically the decisions that endorsed the EPA's legal ability to define CO2 and water vapor as greenhouse gases.

On the other hand, her agency is not keeping up with the advances in petroleum extraction, like shale oil extraction and deep offshore drilling.

The EPA oversteps common sense so often you'd have to think they live on another planet. They could serve a useful purpose but, geeze, some of the rulings I've been aware of from the EPA are truly scary in their depths. Come on back to the real world EPA. You could be useful. At work we deal with the EPA. They've always been unreasonable. In the past few years they've grown more so. When I hear an EPA inspector admit that her goal is to fine businesses, they've become intolerable. Her attitude wasn't environmental protection. It was environmental extortion.

Is the EPA the enemy of business? Well in a way yes. Business and industry don't get to crap all over the environment for free with the EPA restrictions in place.....restriction that don't go far enough as far as I'm concerned. We can't afford to compromise the environment, once it's gone, it's gone forever. Damage is in most cases for all intents and purposes irreversible. Stop making excuses for business, their only goal is to turn a profit...without adequate regulation the profit motive sees only greenbacks, concerns for the environment are only an impediment to that end. Overpopulation, pollution, over exploitation of resources, and man made climate change will forever negatively alter the course of human history and life on planet Earth.

Why is this even a subject to be discussed ? How much money was she paid over the years to spew her unfounded 'global warming' crap ? Just remember one thing - when the newly formed hippie-moonbats started ' Earth Day' in 1969 , they preached the coming of a new ' ICE AGE ', yes an ice age . They then predicted that most of the people of Europe would be 'DEAD' by the year 2000 due to freezing temps & the inability to grow food . The EPA is a recipe for economic suicide. Yes, I care about the envirement, but the affects of pollution are a lot longer term then the effects of the national debt that is increased by them and will soon plunge us into REAL poverty.
