Food Stamps, Minimum Wage, Low Income Housing, tax relief... I mean, if it weren't for these liberal policies, I would have been homeless. My mother worked all the time and my gma helped raise me and it still wasn't enough. These programs at the very least put basic food in our fridge and a roof over our heads. I'm now able to go to school and have a successful shot at being well off because of these programs. These are programs that Republicans wish to deny because they view anyone who doesn't have money to be in American and lazy. Sorry Republicans, not all of us had rich slave owners on our families with trust funds set up for us...

As an organized Party, the Democratic Party UNQUESTIONABLY champion the poor much more so than the Republican Party. HOWEVER, as individuals, it has been proven, over and over again that folks from Red States, CONTRIBUTE MUCH MORE MONEY to the poor, on an individual basis than folks from Blue States. So while it is true that the Democratic Party gives OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY away to the poor, it is the Individual Republican (and Independents) that contribute much more of THEIR OWN MONEY to the poor via donations to charitable organizations. Google it if you don't believe it. It has been in the National News more than a few times.

The huge number of people are poor because many now believe it is to be admired for one to become obscenely wealthy by virtually enslaving the masses with jobs which do not pay a living wage. The liberals idea is simply robbing the wealth from those who work and doling it off to the leeches who do nothing. It actually was Richard Nixon who instituted the Disability Act and asshole Clinton who doesn't know what having sex with someone means who passed legislation limiting ones ability to stay on welfare to a maximum of 2 years in one's entire lifetime. Of course Clinton did talk on a weekly bases with the CEO of Walmart when he was Gov of the peanut state. You all know Walmart. The largest monopoly in the world that has products manufactured in the most inhumane of sweat shops where children as young as 5 years old are used to work and die in.

I'm not sure who we consider "poor". IMO, having children isn't an excuse for collecting welfare; however, if Mom decides not to support them what then? Yes, a lot of welfare is nothing more than people using their children as a means to collect money...but is that the children's fault? Should children starve because their parents are lazy? Very few of us are old enough to remember life before welfare and few of us would have ever wanted to live it. It was brutal to most of the working class and poverty was a very real thing. Republicans admit that Democrats like to spend. Spend on things like food stamps, work to welfare, social security and ssdi, medicare, unemployment insurance, and education. Also if Democrats had their way we would probably have universal healthcare which disproportionately would favor poorer people. At least they passed legislation forcing insurance companies to accept people with preexisting conditions for people of whom have lapses in insurance coverage (probably due to financial reasons). Republicans simply don't have any equivalent legislative accomplishments that help poor people.

However, if you follow the liberal doctrine of government dependency then you can only achieve as much as the government allows you to achieve. How is that helping the poor? Be honest liberals, just for one post please. How many generations of people have grown up, raised their children on, and continue to be trapped on welfare? Government dependency does little to help people. To get ahead you need a conservative streak of hard work and self sufficiency!

Since Lyndon Johnson and the Democrats passed the Great Society in 1965 we have spent trillions of dollars on the War on Poverty. Yet we have more people and a greater percentage of the population in poverty than ever before. We also have more children born out of wedlock and more fatherless homes than ever before, almost a guarantee of generational poverty. Government dependence is at an all time high and still the Dems prescribe the same old medicine. Could it be that their aim is not to eradicate poverty but to stay in power?!

Teaching self-sufficiency is an American value, which is what the Republicans stood for. Democrats teach the poor to become reliant on the government to take care of them ad they remove the will and ability to be self-sufficient. Now I am not foolish enough to make that a blanket statement about Republicans, as Boehner, Bush 41, 43 and John McCain all call the Conservative values into question for the party, since they (and many others) are RINOs.
