NAVY's Anti-Bath Salt PSA Hopes to Scare You Straight

The 'disturbing' video is aiming to do what drug tests currently can't

Like those 90s flicks "Trainspotting" and "The Basketball Diaries," the US military is weighing in with a terrifying vision of drug use all its own.

Business Insider's Geoffrey Ingersoll passes along a "disturbing dramatization" from the Navy about the effects of the dreaded substance known as "bath salts," i.e. the stuff responsible for inspiring so-called "zombie" attacks last year. In lieu of sufficiently reliable in-house tests to detect use of the drug among Navy personnel, the state is hoping the video, dubbed "BATH SALTS: It's not a fad...it's a nightmare," will discourage folks from experimenting with the powder in the first place.

Depicting the downward spiral of reckless, paranoid behavior on the part of a bath salt user from a first-person perspective, the public service announcement includes words of warning from an expert in psychiatry at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.

"When people are using bath salts, they're not their normal selves," claims Lt. George Loeffler. "People will start seeing things that aren't there, believing things that aren't true."

probably not going to change many attitudes,probably see worse than that in training films and movies,but it couldn,t hurt to at least make them aware of the effects of their choices

I watched video and commend the effort however I feel, like most anti drug messages,r based on what one has heard and rarely from true experience.perhaps that's why the message isn't REALLY heard. It's to far fetched.the truth of a legitimate experience ,whether it be ones self or a loved ones drug use..that's scary enough .i guess getting to opinion of video....way wrong.a handful of ppl I once called friends got taken over by bath salts and the video is way off.like most speed.ive learned as an outsider looking in..it consumes their entire being....no time for sleep or food or hygiene ..after a week plus of that anyone would feel crazy and look like a filthy zombie..it's very sad.

As the educational petty officer for a regional Navy hospital in the 1970s I ran anti-drug films at dozens of mandatory staff meetings. I remember lots of audience snickering about joint rolling techniques in the movies.:-)

But even earlier, Reefer Madness in the 1920s made no noticeable difference.

Well, I'm convinced not to snort the damned stuff, but then I'm not a young sailor who is immortal and willing to try just about anything to catch a buzz. I did get a laugh when the roommate turned into a monster. That was cool. It might just have the opposite effect that the Navy was hoping for among young people who play zombie apocalypse video games in between watching slasher movies.

Yea people who see vids like this won't do drugs not all of them but some of them will make the choice not to do drugs bc of vids like this that show the horrors of drug usage you don't tell kids not to do drugs you show them why not people who say these videos are worthless and shouldn't be funded by tax dollars well I hope your Kids get hooked on phonix then there's only you to blame for your failure as a parent
