The only way to get gun control in this country is to vote out pretty much all GOP representatives and a good portion of the democratic ones. It won't happen any time soon. Aurora, CO was home to another gun nut killing yesterday. Until we get many, many more of these senseless gun nut killings the NRA will remain too strong for us to get reasonable gun control. Guns don't kill people - crazy people with guns do.
  • !
if I understand the term "gun nut" correctly you mean those opposed to gun control who promote the secend amnd like it was the bible. Now it is true most are republicans, true they are nuts, and yes, they have an unhealthy fetish for guns, but in all fairness they are nut indicative of the spree killers shooting up theaters, schools, etc. they are more like Neo, living in fear pf the ever present liberal, hiding guns under their beds, and hoping you didn't mean it when you said you were going to turn their kids gay...

When guns are outlawed who is going to protect little wimpys like yourself from the evil people? Remember when seconds count, the police are just minutes away; provided you can make the phone call.

This rates right down there with the New York Newspaper printing the names and addresses of LEGAL gun owners and then hiring armed guards to protect their employees. Hypocrite much?

    @martydotcom as opposed to....

Armed psychos with unfettered access to illegal weapons capable of firing 900 rds a min. I'd call management realistically ignorant not intelligent.

If your willing to break the first law why would the second stop someone.
  • !
@WilliamWallace w hat law are you referring to?? The newspaper broke no law,
question. If a gun fires 900 rounds per minute and it has a clip size of 30, how long will it take to empty the clip?
  • !
@martydotcom. I guess I overestimated your intelligence. We were discussing gun control and my comment is based on the fact that if you are willing to break a law and commit murder why would a gun control law stop you.

From experience the last casing ejects from the chamber before the first one hits the ground.

This doesn't rate anywhere with the comparison you are making. People are entitled to know how their particular Congressman or Senator stands on certain issues. If they don't like it, don't run for office. Simple solution.
I didn't support what the NY Times did, I do support this.

    Oy vey.
Sooooo, according to this article, anyone who develops an app must be a lib.
Thats almost as good as the one about Google being liberal.
Like an algorithm can be conservative or liberal.
    Please.
  • !
Given the level of skill required to write professional software it is a pretty good bet that most of those writing apps are liberal.

Unlike the techy hoplophobes, Intelligent People know that mean tweets don't actually hurt; sorta goes back to that old school sticks and stones rhyme.

Sticks and Stones may hurt my bones buy stupid tweets can't hurt me.

I do have an off switch on my DROID.
  • !
Hoplophobe - A person who is afflicted with an irrational fear of firearms. That's a new word to me. I learned something today. Sticks and Stones may break my bones but an AK47 will seriously f#k you up.
  • !
@Sharpshooter I'll revise it - Sticks and Stones in the hands of a nut may break your bones but an AK47 in the hands of a gun nut will seriously f@$k you up.
  • !
    @PNWest How about

Sticks and Stones in the hands may break your bones but an AK47 in the hands of a gun nut will protect you, your rights and the Constitution from hoplophobes.

The first line of the Article: "As if we needed any more evidence that the tech-savvy are a fairly liberal bunch." I guess one can conclude the conservatives are still living in the past loving their 50's/60's technology and remain technical illiterates...right in tune with their social values
    IBM Selectric's for all !

We are never going to have gun control people get it through y'all's heads gun control cuts into gun company's profits corporations run America so any kind of legislation that's doesn't allow for bigger profits will never pass until someone can make huge profits from gun control it will never happen

@Born4thofjuly Considering how widely available cigarettes are and how much of the public still smokes, I wouldn't consider that the crown jewel of achievements.
  • !
@Fishbone345 You have missed the point, Fishbone345. Manufacturers of dangerous products can be regulated and held accountable for the negative impact of their products. Smoking has been banned in most public places, offices, etc. I wish the "cancer sticks" were no longer available anywhere but I made the analogy to make the point to counter the erroneous statement that the gun manufacturers could not be regulated.
  • !
@Born4thofjuly No, I got your point. I'm simply pointing out that despite Government interference, Tobacco companies are alive and well. I work in a hospital setting, and I see its victims almost every day. Numbers haven't dropped off in the least bit actually, despite claims otherwise.
  • !
@Fishbone345 Well sorry to hear that. I thought most people got the word that smoking kills. I don't expect that guns will disappear either but I believe that regulation of tobacco sales has helped reduce the number of smokers so can gun contol reduce gun murders. Sorry that you must deal with that medical issue which is so avoidable.

There is this funny notion out there that the House of representatives should be held accountable nationally for their actions. In part, this is a vlid thought as their actions affect the whole nation, but the reality is that representative need to be accountable only to the constituents in the district they are sent to represent. If you don't know the views of your representatives on the issues, then shame on you. It shouldn't take a third party to find this information and bring it to light. One of the greatest problems in American politics is a lazy electorate.

Not until they list the 'foreign' donations to the BO campaign . Or explain the George Soros link to lib-socialist Democrats like the clintons or brack Hussein soetoro obama. The moonbats whined & moaned & denied when the truth came out about BO's coming out party hosted in the home of American terrorists Billy Ayres & Bernadine Dohrn or his Annenburg links or his tie ins with felon Rezko . Livin in a glass house - yinz got no business throwin stones. More leftist double standards ? What else ?

So in your mind an app that enables people to know who their representatives take money from and help them to contact that rep with their opinion and how they want them to vote is socialism and leading to Naziism?
  • !
@Cheenoguy When it's targeted at representatives who defend the Constitution of the United States, yes. Get it through your head. I know National Socialism very well... I used to infiltrate hate groups like the Aryan Nations and the National Alliance in the 1990's. I have been an anti-racism activist now for well over 10 years.
  • !
    @Heavy-Fed
Good for you on the anti-racism activism. People should get involved in tearing down hate groups. May I suggest going after Westboro or CBN as your next hate group to target?
Most people on both sides of the issue are trying to defend the 2nd amendment. You are focused on the "right to bare arms" part while I focus on the "WELL REGULATED militia" part.
I'm all for you having guns for hunting and/or defense. My biggest passion about gun restriction is clearing up the gun show loophole. That loophole makes it easy for people to get guns who I think we all agree shouldn't have. I have to question the integrity of anyone who wants to keep that loophole open.
I still think you are misusing the term socialist when you say that it is socialist to make easier to know where our representatives stand on this important issue so that you can contact them to try and change their mind or express your support. Quite frankly I would like to see better apps for showing us what our individual reps have voted for and giving us contact information. This is clearly a tool for furthering democracy.
  • !
    @Heavy-Fed
Clearly you have put no thought into this.
    1) Giving people a tool to be more involved in their government is a win for Democracy. When you are disturbed by American citizens having a voice you are demonstrating a fascist mindset.
    2) Under Obama the 30 year trend of taking from the middle class to give to the ultra-rich has increased. The stock market has went up while wages have went down.(Another 30 year trend.) Hell he just signed a tax bill that didn't raise the taxes for the middle class and is talking about cuts for Medicare and social security. If this man is a socialist he doesn't understand how it is supposed to work.

So what? If anything that will get them votes. I'm sure Senator Shelby of Alabama is concerned about what Kim Kardashian and Beyonce thinks. It's laughable. Liberal logic. Funny stuff.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
What does this statement actually mean?
The word Militia means "We the people" the Citizens of the United States of America.
Necessary? Meaning that our guns are truly necessary in order to be a free country, with liberty and freedoms, From a dictatorship.
Keep and Bear Arms? To have guns in our houses and business's and to be able to carry them for our safety and security.
Shall not be infringed? Meaning "Laws can not be passed to infringe upon our rights to keep and bear arms" Period
  • !
Seems you forgot that "well regulated" bit when declaring "Laws can not be passed..." There's room for "well regulated" gun ownership.

That's the same video you already posted
Even so, In every single school shooting case it was a negligent parent allowing his/her immature, under age child access to guns and ammo. If the parent had left a sharp knife on the coffee table with an unsupervised toddler, that parent could be prosecuted.
  • !
@hwyangel do you just cut and paste that response? You blame negligent parents all too often excusing the psychopath with unfettered access to guns
On December 14, 2012, Adam Peter Lanza, fatally shot twenty children and six adult staff members and wounded two at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the Sandy Hook village of Newtown, Connecticut, after killing his mother (in whose name the weapons he used were registered). Lanza was believed to suffer from a personality disorder and was "somewhat autistic." Others reported that he had been previously diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/ ...

James Eagan Holmes is the suspected perpetrator of a mass shooting that occurred on July 20, 2012 at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. Holmes allegedly set off several gas or smoke canisters and then opened fire on the theater audience, killing 12 and wounding 58. Holmes was described by his work supervisor as stubborn, uncommunicative and socially inept. Some of Holmes' acquaintances suspected prior to the shooting that Holmes suffered from mental illness and could be dangerous. Two weeks before the shooting, he sent a text message asking a graduate student if they had heard of the disorder dysphoric mania, and warning the student to stay away from him "because I am bad news

Jared Lee Loughner plead guilty to 19 charges, of murder and attempted murder, in connection with the shooting in Tucson, Arizona, on January 8, 2011, that killed six people, including Chief U.S. District Court Judge John Roll, as well as a 9-year-old girl, Christina-Taylor Green. Evidence has been presented of obsession with conspiracy theories, loathing of the governmant, anti-semitism, and attitudes and opinions regarded as "wildly inappropriate

45-year-old Robert Stewart killed eight people and wounded another two before being shot and apprehended by a responding police officer in the Carthage North Carolina nursing home shooting, a mass murder that occurred on March 29, 2009. With a violent temper and schizoid tendencies, Stewart seemed very depressed in the days prior to the shooting, saying that "everything had gone to hell." http://murderpedia.org/ ...

The shooting was baffling to those who knew him, as he appeared outgoing and never appeared to have social problems

It's just more public domain data, no need to hyperventilate.

As for techies having a liberal bent? Well, the successful ones seem to. The most prominent GOP tech types in recent memory were the folks behind ORCA, the Romney campaign's web app that was supposed to help count votes on Election Day but crashed early and hard.

Another great idea by the dreamworld liberals. Kinda like listing gun owners names and addresses give criminals the info on who is NOT armed so they can invade thier homes to rob, rape and kill them, this stupid idea gives people the names of who to support if you are a gun rights supporter. And let us not forget the moron (mostly democrat) politicians who want to ban assault weapons just dumped 100's of thousands more of them on the street because of panic buying. If they would just address the REAL causes (yes there are many) of people going nuts instead of blaming guns, peolple would stop buying these $2000.00 rifles and go back to watching football.

"Kinda like listing gun owners names and addresses give criminals the info on who is NOT armed so they can invade thier homes to rob, rape and kill them,"
No, its not kinda like it at all. Not even in the remotest bit. Its an App that lets people know their elected officials stance on a certain subject. If you or the elected official don't like it, simply don't take part in the election process. These people's stances should be known. Its a part of their job.
