It's pure fantasy and holds little basis in historical reality, but I've always been a sucker for movies like this and "Taken", where you're able to see those who are subject to injustice fight their way to the top of their tormentors.

Really I wanted to say "2016" but it wasn't an option. If more people had seen it and realized what a monster they were voting for this country would be heading in the right direction. Sadly, every single one of this great movie's predictions has come true.

Only listing what pass for Movies these days is an insult to the Movie Industry. I think "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and the "Farmers Daughter" are the best political movies but the are many many more Classics.

I didn't and won't see that movie, I only clicked on it because the others are CIA worship and historical revisionism - AND because this POS website won't allow comments without a vote. I guess I will watch Lincoln when it is on HBO or whatever. All of the movies are from the Obama Marxist Ministry of Truth and undoubtedly not worth the time except for the feeble minded. I would rather reread William Herndonâs bio of Lincoln or the thoughts of Robert Ingersol, about the war. Over a half million dead; misery for all both black and white, why? At least we bought Alaska and built the rail roads and made great engineering strides.

Actually, I wanted a "None of the above" option here, but I guess we were restricted to current movies. IMO one of the hands-down best political movies ever was a little-known movie call "True Colors" -- not to be confused with John Travolta's "Primary Colors" which was also pretty good. "True Colors" featured James Spader and John Cusack as college buddies who both went into politics, but in very different ways. From this movie we get the phrase "Only two things will ruin a man's political career: getting caught with live boy or a dead girl." Excellent writing.

I just watched Lincoln again because of your comment here. It is what you expect from a Spielgerg historical novel. I'm not debating you here because this is subjective. What I'm curious about is what is so appealing to you about this movie? As a civil war buff of some years there was little in the movie that I didn't already know. The acting is superb. The story is one for the ages. And of course Dreamworks spares no expense in making a Spielberg movie. But what fascinated you so much about it? Because I got the same feeling about Zero Dark Thirty. But that had things I didn't know.

@jessejaymes Well the deal making. Watching Lincoln as a pol. I knew the history of the radical repubs and the civil rights act and fourteenth amendment having read a book about how that later legislation played out in congress, not the deal making, but the politics of it, so that back ground, was instructive, but watching the dealing, the debating, how it played out, as spock would say, facinating. As a politics junkie it hit me like a shot of high quality herion. Or how I imagine that would hit me, I never really shot herion. The only dope worth shooting is in...they took this down last time I finished it, but it referred to a certian well know building referred ...

The story is set during the last 3 months of the Civil War, and the issue at hand is the passage of the 13th Amendment (abolishing slavery) and the ending of the war. Very well done, I felt like I learned a lot about politics and diplomacy of that era. Daniel Day Lewis is awesome as Lincoln, as is Sally Field as Mrs. Lincoln, David Strathairn (best known for Good Night and Good Luck) as Secretary of State William Seward and Tommy Lee Jones as Congressman Thaddeus Stevens. Stellar casting, and Speilberg brings a warmth and solemnity to the events in his directing. A superb 5/5 stars and I wouldn't be surprised if this brings home some Oscars.

I have seen all the movies listed here. My vote goes to zero dark thirty. I thought Django unchained was probably Tarento's best movie of his career but still not to the level of Zero Dark Thirty. Quite frankly I thought Lincoln is over hyped. Which means of course it will probably win. Still my vote went to Zero with Django second.

Slightly biased...only film I've seen out of the bunch...Daniel Day Lewis was superb...Tommy lee was a pretty good Thaddeus to boot...Sally fields...is it just me or did her shoulders look a little hulk hoganish?
