Hunting and target practice were not cited as justification for the 2nd amendment by the framers. Self-defense and security of their life, property and liberty from criminals, invading armies, and a usurping federal government were the given reasons.

Unfortunately, I don't think that clown LaPierre gets it and neither does Malarkey Joe...smh

@jamesmitchell I dont believe the right to protect ones life, family and property should ever be infringed upon but we dont need the guns lanza had
  • !
@SignifiedNBlue I understand where you're coming from, but I find it hard to find a good middle ground between defending the right to bear arms and banning certain types of guns, like the ones Adam Lanza.

@martydotcom Neo shouldn't be sad. He is a man of strong beliefs and has a family that is proud of him. I'm sure he works hard and is good to his family. I just disagree with him on politics. I suspect that if I was broken down on the side of the road he might even stop and help me - at least he might if I removed the Obama 2012 and Dog Against Romney bumper stickers.

@PNWest You haven't spent enough time on Neo threads lately, he is going to be sad, unless he sees this first and it makes him laugh.

"We attended today's White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals. "
All reasonable items since we now know (see California school shooting attack today using a shotgun) that "assault" guns come in all shapes and sizes. I will be up front and say I don't understand the assault gun, but, I will defend your Constitutional right to have them. And I still say that if given 2 decent revolvers with 8 "quick" loaders for them and I (or any decent shooter) could do major carnage. Any gun beyond a muzzle loader can be considered an "assault" gun....IMO
  • !
I like a shotgun myself. Your aim doesn't have to be so precise, and my eyesight isn't getting any better these days. I also don't understand having something like an AR 15, but like you I will defend any American's right to own one. Just don't point that thing at me!

@Denizen_Kate i don,t know how you fit in target shooting and the like with all that cookie baking, sandwich making etc. but you shotgun is a lot more dangerous than than any assault Rifle,a 3 in, 12 gauge slug will take out just about anything at 200 ft or less,or triple OO buck in 12 gauge 3 in. shell, devastating at close range, especially if you wire the shot together
  • !
@MongoAPillager - Trust me, I know all that. FYI mine is a Remington 20 gauge, practically an antique, it was my mother's. Light and portable, ready for the zombie apocalypse. Don't worry, I haven't been out shooting in years, too busy baking your cookies and bringing your slippers. ;-)

@Denizen_Kate thanks for the cookies,i like no-bake chocolate..P.S. i just got an e-mail from the Taliban saying i need to lighten up on women's rights issues

in light of the fact that there was yet another school shooting today in taft, california i believe that there is absolutely no argument left for the nra to make. they should simply shut up and go home.

@MadAmerican so what? why did a 16 year old boy carry a gun into a school? that's the question. are you telling me that you support his actions simply because it wasn't an automatic weapon? piss off.
  • !
@stepped_in_it My point is that laws are made to be broken. California does have laws about guns on school property, regardless if they have an assult rifle ban. It just so happens that school was lucky.

I think both sides of this issue have merit and both sides have some strange notions about how to address the problem. Also, both sides are being unreasonably stubborn. We can preserve the 2nd Amendment AND make school children safer with more focus and resources placed on mental health issues. Maybe ban high capacity clips/magazines from future sales, but isn't the genie long out of the bottle on personally owned guns? It isn't the gun that makes these young men and boys act out this way, but we need to do more to identify those at risk of "going postal" and insure that they can't get their hands on guns.
  • !
Exactly what I keep saying. The idea of the gun is out. You would have to do away with all the plans, machines and material that makes guns. Then wipe every memory of how they were every produced..... proverbial "cat is out of the bag".

In related news the NRA announced that they are cancelling duck hunting, deer hunting, bear hunting, rabbit hunting, squirrel hunting, elk hunting, moose hunting and all forms of bait hunting in order to post armed IDIOTS around every school in America. What the hell did you think they were going to say?

I must ad though that Obama will probobly place a large tax on all amunition. I can see doing away with automatic weapons and expanded magazines, however I do not believe Obiden and company are not telling us the entire truth on what they are wanting to take away. I think the NRA as a whole would be OK with the ban on assult weapons and expanded magazines if they would honestly to god properly punish the criminals with the full extent of the law. I feel Obiden and company are pushing for more than just the ban. Stay tuned for more lies.

Got to love paying for free trips to Washington, DC that are complete waste of everyones time. Democrats are going to repeal the 2nd Amendment, the sole reason why no other country than the British and Japanese have invaded America, anyways. If I were the NRA, would of given Biden the bird and left.
  • !
I'm surprised the NRA bothered showing up for Bozo's Circus. He and El Presidente' made it quite clear what THEY wanted to "discover."

The photo heading this article is missing the talk balloon.... "OK... This is how it's going to be....."

A Summit? Yeah right. Biden said it earlier in the week... " "Every once in a while, there's something that awakens the conscience of the country, and that tragic event did it in a way like nothing I've seen in my career."

Translation... "we need to act fast before the blood of those poor murdered children coagulates and is less effective at greasing the skids of our political agenda."

In light of the fact that on average 11 teens die every single day as a result of texting while driving, guess it's time to do away with cell phones.
Guess we better put and end to booze as well, booze making a person drink and that kills a lot of people too.
  • !
While we are banning booze I'd like to point out that there has never been a single recorded death from an overdose of Pot. Just sayin'
  • !
@MadAmerican agreed. A gun in the hands of a lunatic is a seriously deadly tool, no question. But a car driven by a lunatic is as well, or a lunatic with about 10 dollars in his pocket can walk in to any hardware store and by everything they needs to kill a multitude of people.
Do away with guns is a lazy answer, it is a way to make ones self feel better for a while, but what happens when kids start making bombs and walking in to school, like the kid in Alabama who made his bombs from tobacco cans.
Guess the tonacco cans made the kid do it.
You heard the story about that lady, at home with her kids while dad was at work, when an intruder started beating on the door. Mom and kids ran and hid, the guy gets in, goes up stairs, opens the closet door and mom unloads her newly purchased 38 special in the guys chest and face.
And that is exactly why, as I have said many times, if you want my guns come beat on the door and get them.
(Said with a sh!t eatin grin on my face).
  • !
@Thegrif I heard about that lady. The news didn't give it too much attention, but I did see the police chief from the North East that was pissed that prisoners found out where all the cops live now thanks to that firearm list.

A lot of todays problems are LACK of parent attencion as to what thier kids are doing. Also no strickt rules as decency & respect. Some parents give thier children anything any time the kids want something.. It is just a lack of decent parenting

Child injuries are preventable, yet more than 9,000 children died from injuries in the US in 2009. Car crashes, suffocation, drowning, poisoning, fires, and falls are some of the most common ways children are hurt or killed. More can be done to keep our children safe.
So I think if you don't put your child in swimming lessons then those parents should be arrested for criminal child neglect. Oh no we can't blame the parents, that's right, it would be the waters fault.

While we agree on most of the gun situation I am not worried about losing my guns. This is a lot of grandstanding going on to smokescreen that congress and the President are not doing a damn thing about getting Americans back to work.
  • !
Probably an honest assessment, at least from their point of view. The NRA doesn't represent all gun owners any more than AARP represents all retired people, however Joe Biden is probably one of the worst choices for a spokesperson that could be choosen.
  • !
This was just a ruse by the administration to make it look like they were open to a real discussion when in reality they don't care what anyone says they will carry out their agenda no matter what. If they were serious it would go through a few years of real research, committees, public hearings etc.
Did anyone expect anything different? Really?
