Jun 15 lawnmowrman v No We need to take the Icelandic approach. It's what our government should have done to begin with. Their economy has recovered despite the default and despite having sent many of their bankers to prison. I doubt the U.S. would recover anywhere near that quickly. We'd likely spent a decade or two in an economic depression. Wall Street big wigs would join us. Some of them might even sit of one our tables for bread and stew. Perhaps, once the economy emerged, our society would be totally different, maybe even like me, one of those that still believe in the barn raising. Post
Jun 13 Aftermath v No Tell the democrats no, and if they starve out due to over spending, then the next group will maybe learn the lesson from them. Post

u May '13 BelinKS v No We're just going to hear more lies! Our Rebunlicans should not fall for it. Obama has created a lot of the mess we're in, but won't admit it. He keeps trying to blame everyone but himself! I am just sick of him and he needs to go now! Not in three and a half more years! Post
May '13 jeffreyknee v No How to downsize Washington without harming one citizen. Keep in mind medical industry subsidies are 300x oil industry subsidies ($1.2 trillion vs. $4 billion): 1). Scrap all poverty-based entitlements, and cut taxes 50%; 2). Put the judicial branch and IRS in charge of mitigating neediness using family courts, penalty fines and surtaxes on the relatives (not the public); 3). Abolish Medicaid, state lotteries and Indian casinos -- then renew funding for higher education and cut tuitions 75% (see 7 below for more); 4). Keep Social Security for retirement only (scrap disability and widowhood perks, see above); 5). Reform health insurance and abolish employer pools-- ... Post
May '13 oldman75 v Yes Th only way the 19th century rethugs can win anything is by getting us in a full scale depression. They have tried that for five years now,by not passing any jobs bills. Defaulting on national debt will undoubtedly cause a depression. Then they can get their Fox Boobs and Limberger factions to blame it on Obama . Post
u May '13 fraps v No They should also not vote on continuing funding of the government except through the budget process. If they announced today the would not pass another continuing resolution and were submitting a budget, the choice would then be up to the senate and the president whether to allow the government slowly grind to a halt or participate in the legal process required by the constitution. We should start living within our means. No more government investments. No more pork. Eliminate the unnecessary. Eliminate the waste. Post
May '13 Wafflecone v Yes Republicans, please force a default on the national debt so we have more reason to vote your asses out in 2014! Post

Jan '13 FollowTheMoney v No Cut cut cut spending. The politicians need to fix the problems they created by trading tax dollars for votes them selves. Eliminate unnecessary government agencies and pork barrel spending. Post
Jan '13 bhk220 v No No,politicians do not need more money to waste.Look at they money wasted during Christmas.A cake that cost thousands of dollars,Christmas decorations that cost another ,thousands of dollars. If we took the money that they waste in Washington in one year a lot of the debt could be cut .Do you ever hear anyone in Washington DC(I don't care what party is in) talk about cutting what they spend,NO! They make a good living so I hope you do not think any of them care about the American people or if they have jobs to support their family's.The government needs to downsize and stop putting their fingers in every bowl. Post
Jan '13 rickv v No We need to cut the spending. Like any household they should make a list and prioritize. Both parties should let the people know where they stand and stop the generic terms. Working wage, cutting spending, securing America's future etc. What do they mean? Make a list. What is more important?, Feeding Americans, free college for illegal immigrants or foreign aid? Canceling a couple new fighter jets or cutting the salary and benefits of the guy who sweeps the floor at the Social Security office? We want to know... We can buy what gets cut when we can better afford it. We can no longer afford to buy everyone something for their vote. Congress should do their job and take... B1 Post
Jan '13 Truck68293 v Maybe I don't know the cost of support for people thru this crisis and creating new jobs but we need an effort toward Jobs Post
Jan '13 HughAkston v No The Democrats are going to say we need a higher debt ceiling to pay this nation's debt and obligations. That is a lie! The debt ceiling enables future spending. The Republicans really need to grow a vag on this one. However, if we're increasing the debt ceiling to borrow money to pay interest on the existing debt and obligations ....... then that's like getting a new credit card to pay for the debt racked up on the old credit card. In that case the Republicans really, Really, REALLY need to grow a vag and fast. Somewhere the line has to be drawn. Simply stated you have to cut up a credit-junkie's credit cards. Anything else is a disservice. B1 r3 replies e43 endorsed Post
Jan '13 AundriaP v No Obama said increasing the debt ceiling was a sign of failed leadership in regard to his predecessor, but apparently not for himself? No, he's right.....he failed! Control your spending now, Mr. President!!! YOURS! B5 r6 replies e24 endorsed Post

Jan '13 justapirate v Maybe The do-nothing Congress and the out-of-control Presidents we have and had have put us in a situation that isn't going to be rectified with a month's worth of arguing and then just throw something out there that will keep us sinking just a little slower. The debt is a HUGE problem but any fast-draw solution isn't going to do anything of any value. Just my opinion- approve a 6 month LIMITED increase and then require Congress to start working on a real solution and a real budget. No delays. Get to work NOW. Block any and all lobbying and deal with the situation AS IT IS. B2 r1 reply e4 endorsed Post
