We need to take the Icelandic approach. It's what our government should have done to begin with. Their economy has recovered despite the default and despite having sent many of their bankers to prison. I doubt the U.S. would recover anywhere near that quickly. We'd likely spent a decade or two in an economic depression. Wall Street big wigs would join us. Some of them might even sit of one our tables for bread and stew. Perhaps, once the economy emerged, our society would be totally different, maybe even like me, one of those that still believe in the barn raising.

They should also not vote on continuing funding of the government except through the budget process. If they announced today the would not pass another continuing resolution and were submitting a budget, the choice would then be up to the senate and the president whether to allow the government slowly grind to a halt or participate in the legal process required by the constitution. We should start living within our means. No more government investments. No more pork. Eliminate the unnecessary. Eliminate the waste.

No,politicians do not need more money to waste.Look at they money wasted during Christmas.A cake that cost thousands of dollars,Christmas decorations that cost another ,thousands of dollars.If we took the money that they waste in Washington in one year a lot of the debt could be cut .Do you ever hear anyone in Washington DC(I don't care what party is in) talk about cutting what they spend,NO! We need to cut the spending. Like any household they should make a list and prioritize. Both parties should let the people know where they stand and stop the generic terms. Working wage, cutting spending, securing America's future etc. What do they mean? Make a list. What is more important?, Feeding Americans, free college for illegal immigrants or foreign aid? Canceling a couple new fighter jets or cutting the salary and benefits of the guy who sweeps the floor at the Social Security office? We want to know... We can buy what gets cut when we can better afford it. We can no longer afford to buy everyone something for their vote. Congress should do their job and take...

The Democrats are going to say we need a higher debt ceiling to pay this nation's debt and obligations. That is a lie! The debt ceiling enables future spending. The Republicans really need to grow a vag on this one. However, if we're increasing the debt ceiling to borrow money to pay interest on the existing debt and obligations ....... then that's like getting a new credit card to pay for the debt racked up on the old credit card. In that case the Republicans really, Really, REALLY need to grow a vag and fast. Somewhere the line has to be drawn. Simply stated you have to cut up a credit-junkie's credit cards. Anything else is a disservice.

The do-nothing Congress and the out-of-control Presidents we have and had have put us in a situation that isn't going to be rectified with a month's worth of arguing and then just throw something out there that will keep us sinking just a little slower. The debt is a HUGE problem but any fast-draw solution isn't going to do anything of any value. Just my opinion- approve a 6 month LIMITED increase and then require Congress to start working on a real solution and a real budget. No delays. Get to work NOW. Block any and all lobbying and deal with the situation AS IT IS.
