Former Adult Film Star No Longer Allowed to Teach

She's a bad role model for impressionable students, rules judge

A California educator who was fired last April after it was discovered she'd once starred in pornographic films has been told that her past will forever "impede her from being an effective teacher."

Judge Julie Cabos-Owen informed 32-year-old Oxnard teacher Stacie Halas that despite her desire to repent for her scintillating prior gig, she should no longer be allowed to lead a classroom. Pornographic videos of Halas from 2005-2006 were discovered by students who later informed school staff of their teacher's salacious history.

"Although her pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague," stated Cabos-Owen in a unanimous three-judge ruling.

It's an unfortunate conclusion to a legal battle Halas hoped would set a precedent for folks attempting to dodge an embarrassing employment record.

"We were hoping we could show you could overcome your past," said Halas's lawyer, Richard Schwab. "I think she's representative of a lot of people who may have a past that may not involve anything illegal or anything that hurts anybody."

i don't know about the rest of the country and what i see here in ca she cannot make matters worst,we have day care on campus there are kids having kids,if she worked and did not get preg she has to be a better teacher than what our schools have been teaching on the subject

Wow, politix is really on a roll today with tough stuff. I don't know that I would like my children(when I have them) knowing that their teacher was in that particular industry, especially since clips are so readily available. There was no mention of her record of teaching. She might be the best teacher ever, who can get through to kids. There just isn't enough here to make a definite decision, but I'm leaning towards it is no Bueno!!

I agree with your statement. Kinda torn on this one myself. Should she be punished forever for something that's not illegal? On the other hand would most parents accept her as their child's teacher? Tough one indeed.

So if a serial killer child rapist can "be born again" 5 minutes before he is executed and go to heaven, why can't a porn actress do the same and live her life productively? What's the difference?

I guess I could see this decision making sense if the prior acts were illegal, but in this case? Maybe we're looking more at the "ick factor" from the judges than an impartial legal decision. I hope she appeals.

People should realize by now, we live in the information age, and any kid who has access to a computer has access to porn. I don't think she should be permitted to
teach, not so much for what she did previously, but for what kids are able to 'see'
her do know. It's not professional,(on an educators level )...and it's not a good example for young women. Sometimes our mistakes come back to bite us. That's
life.

But every porn site is required by law to tell those who click on their site that it is illegal for minors to be on that site and they must lie and say they are of age to get on the site. So they have committed a federal crime when they go on the site. Which means this is illegally obtained evidence against her. You're certainly not for a society where illegally obtained evidence can be used you are you?

On thing I can think of is after Illegally viewing it on the internet, they must have then illegally purchased it to see what "Tiffany Six's" real name was! Either way, the word of illegally obtained keeps coming up and I hope she takes this to a higher court. The judge should be admonished and removed from the bench. It (to me) appears that the judge allowed her "Christian" beliefs cloud his/her judgement...IMO

Well, I've been turning this over in my mind, wondering what I would want to do if it had any effect on my children, were they in the school she taught at.
If she was conducting herself properly and not "fooling around" with some of the students as some who never worked the porn industry have done, and was a good and effective teacher, I don't think it'd bother me.
This is just more proof that so many parents just don't know or care what their children are doing or watching on the computer.

I agree, it shouldn't be cause for dismissal. And I agree that not only should parents pay more attention to the influences in their children's lives, but they should also have regular discussions about the pros and cons of those influences. That always worked for me as a parent.

Skin flicks filmed between consenting adults are legal and harmless. If she wants to continue to make them in her spare time, she should be allowed to. Just as long as she does not discuss it with her minor students.
If tis is offensive, then every administrator, teacher or parent who has ever purchased or viewed a porn flick or magazine is a total hypocrite.
